Hi, When i try to take the updates, its throwing the error 8024A000. Not to able get wats the reason Help me out

I'm at the same place and have given up for a few days. I've re-installed from the recovery CD three times already. What a joke!! The Toshiba Recovery CD has all the extra junk programs (including Norton 360) the computer had out of the box that WASN'T advertised as being on the computer. I originally uninstalled all that when I bought the computer and wound up with a Blue Screen of Death. I had the Geek Squad re-install Vista (in warrantee) after making Toshiba send me a recovery disk image CD, but I suspect the Geek squad started with a fresh Vista install since it then had none of the extras and ran with no problems since then (2-3-yrs ago). A real JOKE!!

Boo hoo. Just tried all that and still can't update. I had to install a new hard drive, so bought a bigger one. Recovered using the recovery discs created on putchase of laptop with Vista installed. Everything is working just fine, but need SP2 for some applications, and can't get it to download. I've spent about 30 hours on this and am now exhausted.

Hello MS Support, I ma having the same issue - receiving error 8024A000 when trying to run Windows Update from the Control Panel. I have a Compaq laptop running Vista SP1. The original HDD crahed and I replaced it with larger one from Western Digital. Ran the orig. Compaq/HP Restore CDs. I ran Marilyn's answer to Rajev from 2/16/09, incl. a reboot, but it did not solve the problem. Still getting error 8024A000. Please advise a fix. Thanks Thomas

The Windows Update Error Code 8024A000 means WU E AU NOSERVICE. This is translated as AU was unable to service incoming AU calls.

I would like for you to perform general Troubleshooting steps for Windows Update.

General Windows Update Troubleshooting

The following outlines how to stop services pertaining to Windows Update, rename system folders, register related DLL files, and then restart the previously mentioned services. This troubleshooting generally applies to all Windows Update related issues.

Stopping services pertaining to Windows Update

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2. If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue.

3. At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

net stop wuauserv net stop bits

net stop cryptsvc

4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update

1. At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

3. ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Registering DLL’s pertaining to Windows Update

1. Please copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT

2. If saved correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file which has two blue cogs as its icon.
