windows 7: Can't get HDMI audio - the hdmi device does not appear under the playback devices

so yeah you've probably gathered my problem from my title.

i have an integrated intel graphics chip (interestingly enough the intel control pane,l through which i used to control the majority of the devices functions, did not survive the upgrade... it is nowhere to be found)

so i've updated the drivers, and checked the playback devices, and my hdmi cables are plugged in

i get video but no audio, and am not sure i am just missing something simple.

eitherway i've done a lot of searching and have yet to find an answer any help would be much appreciated!

Hello spedlifeshow,

The issue here can be one of several issues, the following may apply:

The HDMI graphics card may support HDMI Video, but may not support HDMI Audio
You may need to set the HDMI audio device as the default sound device
You may need to update your HDMI video card drivers for your version of Windows
If your HDMI video card does not support audio, you may need to connect additional audio cables between the PC and TV

Oh, one more comment. I'm able to get sound to work if I use the component port 2. However, having spent $100 on an HDMI cable, an adaptor, and audio cables, I'm in no mood to mess with this piece of junk any longer.

The HDMI/DVI port + the audio ports should be a straight forward exercise. Building my own PC was easier than getting sound out of this TV. I even got a 720c Deskjet to work with 64-bit W7 in less time.

Next TV, I'm bringing my laptop to the store. Not buying till I see it working.

for anyone stumbling across this problem make sure your drivers up-to-date. once this is this is set, go to "sound" from the control panel. when the screen opens up, you should see a list of a few devices, make sure the component that you hooked your hdmi (such as a tv or monitor) is correctly installed. to do this, right click the device and click "set as default" when you do this then go into the next tab in sound to text. if you hear it from the monitor it is good. but in order for it to work you must disable the speakers from your computer by left clicking on the first tab in "sound". once disabled it should be ready to go, it worked for me.
