so yeah you've probably gathered my problem from my title.

i have an integrated intel graphics chip (interestingly enough the intel control pane,l through which i used to control the majority of the devices functions, did not survive the upgrade... it is nowhere to be found)

so i've updated the drivers, and checked the playback devices, and my hdmi cables are plugged in

i get video but no audio, and am not sure i am just missing something simple.

eitherway i've done a lot of searching and have yet to find an answer any help would be much appreciated!

Hello spedlifeshow,

The issue here can be one of several issues, the following may apply:

  • The HDMI graphics card may support HDMI Video, but may not support HDMI Audio
  • You may need to set the HDMI audio device as the default sound device
  • You may need to update your HDMI video card drivers for your version of Windows
  • If your HDMI video card does not support audio, you may need to connect additional audio cables between the PC and TV

For the steps for some of these issues see the following No sound tutorial (look on the Check your Hardware tab under HDMI cables).

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/no-sound-in-windows

Hope this helps

LD.

SilentGi77, I can't get it working. I did uninstalled the old drivers for the display and intel high audio definition audio HDMI. Then downloaded and installed the new one, but still I'm having the same issue. I can see the device "Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI" in the Device Manager but I don't see it in the playback devices.

I noticed that when uninstalling the drivers, I got the HDMI showing in the playback devices. When installing the new driver it was gone.

Any suggestions? Should I keep the default drivers provided by windows?

After I closed the driver software install the sound started working, PROBLEM FIXED the intel download i used was  titled Win7Vista_64_15177 from intel website. Remember to un install old driver before installing new one, I didn't do that the fisrt time and it didn't work, although i don't think it should effect it, but hey all is well now.

I have a HP DV5 1000us with an intel gma x4500 with intel duo p7350. When I was using windows vista x64 bit my hdmi sound/video worked great on my plasma. When I upgraded to win 7 x64 bit I lost audio like most of you. Video is still good, device manager says its working properly but it does not appear in my playback devices as everything else does. I removed and re installed the sound driver, and after restart a window popped up labeled "Driver Software Installation" and it says "searching preconfigured driver folders". Been doing that for the past 20 minutes.
