so yeah you've probably gathered my problem from my title.

i have an integrated intel graphics chip (interestingly enough the intel control pane,l through which i used to control the majority of the devices functions, did not survive the upgrade... it is nowhere to be found)

so i've updated the drivers, and checked the playback devices, and my hdmi cables are plugged in

i get video but no audio, and am not sure i am just missing something simple.

eitherway i've done a lot of searching and have yet to find an answer any help would be much appreciated!

Hello spedlifeshow,

The issue here can be one of several issues, the following may apply:

  • The HDMI graphics card may support HDMI Video, but may not support HDMI Audio
  • You may need to set the HDMI audio device as the default sound device
  • You may need to update your HDMI video card drivers for your version of Windows
  • If your HDMI video card does not support audio, you may need to connect additional audio cables between the PC and TV

For the steps for some of these issues see the following No sound tutorial (look on the Check your Hardware tab under HDMI cables).

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/no-sound-in-windows

Hope this helps

LD.

Thanks abhishekm30 . I had the same problem (HDMI audio not plugged in) on a sony vaio vgn-fw398y with a readon hd 3650. I updated the Realtek driver.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/ -> downloads -> High Definition Audio Codecs . In my case I downloaded  ATI HDMI Audio Device

Yep, this did the trick for me.  I have a system built on a Gigabyte board with the ATI HD 3200 integrated graphics chip.  It worked great with Vista, but as soon as I upgraded to 7, no HDMI audio when watching HD tv.  The audio worked with SD, but not HD.  Upgrading the HDMI audio device did the trick.  I also upgraded the graphics driver, Realtek audio drivers, and the driver for my Hauppage tuner card as well.

Had the same problem on an HP HDX16 laptop, no sound over HDMI under Windows 7 (although it worked fine under the factory-installed Vista). A quick visit to NVIDIA's website and a download of the latest version of their driver software for the video card installed the necessary HD audio drivers too, and the Sound tabs now include HDMI audio and it is working fine. (Still gotta work out how to get AC3 and DTS passthrough working, but one step at a time eh?)

This is not a Windows 7 Problem, I had this problem when I upgraded my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 from Windows Vista to Windows 7.. After the upgrade I was able to view the picture on my samsung LCD but there was no sound

I had sigmatel Audio in my notebook

i found the driver from Intel Web site for Intel 965 Chipset

you can download it from there web site and it works

It will take time for vendors to catch up!!
