While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

I don't know if you guys have found the answer but it sounds like you have the same problem I did. Which was losing internet connection quite a few times a day. Usually during streaming or generally very active internet activity. Doing the troubleshoot would reset something and then it would work for so long. For me it was just a driver setting. After I went into local area connection/networking/configure/advanced I disabled receive side scaling. Ever since it has never happen again. XD I dunno if this will work for everyone but it is definitely worth a shot.
I would really just like to know if microsoft is trying to fix this issue, instead of being left in the dark. Having to pay 300 bucks for a piece of software should allow us to know if we're being listened to, at the very least.
I've tried the static IP fix, now it's complaining that DHCP is not enabled, and enabling that leads right back to a non static ip and the default gateway problem.
My wife got an HP from Costco in AUG_2009 that came loaded with VistaPrem64 but with the offer of a free upgrade to Win7 HomePrem 64. When the time came, in DEC_2009 she took advantage of that upgrade to Win7. Anyhow - it just started acting up with the "losing default gateway" on the wireless connection yesterday. The previous Vista OS (on the same machine) did not exhibit this behavior for 5 months prior on the same machine before the upgrade. Has anyone found an answer to this? I tried two of the solutions found in this forum: (a) nvidea driver update + (b) unloading the IPv6. No difference...after a short amount of time 5-30min Win7 will lose the connection. Mind you that three other computers CONTINUE on the wireless signal (2 desktops on WinXP + 1 notebook on Vista32). The wireless adapter is listed as an Atheros Dualband Wireless Network Module in the Hardware Device manger and has been updated on the driver also.
I'm having the same issue. I upgraded to Windows 7 64bit 2 weeks ago, and starting yesterday I'm having the "default gateway is not available" problem. I know it's not the apple bonjour service since it doesn't appear to exist anywhere on my pc.
Having the most recent nvidia drivers/uninstalling the nvidia drivers/____, even a new cat5 cable just for good measure and my connection keeps shutting down. For some reason it occurs, for me anyway, in the early morning and the evening.
