When trying to perform a windows update you may receive this error.

I just wanted to post that I found the fix in that the GTW CyberTrust certificate authority is not trusted in Windows 7/Internet Explorer.

Installing this certificate authority into the trusted authorities allows windows update to continue.

I could not find any solution after searching this site, so thought a post would work.

I had the same problem with mine, i tried the thing guitarfish suggested but that didn't work. Didn't understand how it can be becuase of the date and time, after hours of searching on the net, I managed to fix the problem myself and heres how i did it

click on your time and date (bottom right) then a windows should pop up, click on the link 'change date and time settings'. on the date and time window click on the internet time tab, click on Change settings button, then click on the 'update now' button, then click ok and exit the windows and now try your update.

it should work as it did for me

    I do not have Computer account in my list so exactly what would I use? I have x64-bit windows 7 Ultimate help ty  but I did finally found that part but never worked why is this broken we need our updates please fix where is the one we can download the other windows update program? I know there is one some where on here I found it a while back now do not know remember where it is. TY

    Same issue with Win 7.  Installed two rounds of updates successfully, rebooting after each, when on the third pass I got the aforementioned error.  Time and date are correct (to those having issues, with the nist server, that happens all the time, separate issue...just make sure you have the right time/date).

    Tried deleting Software Dist. but that didn't help.

    Finally I reset IE by using inetcpl.cpl from the run box. Advanced Tab--- click "Restore advanced settings" and Apply, click "Reset" and "Reset" again (no need to delete personal settings).

    That did it, all is well.
