"Windows has detected an IP address conflict"

This continues to pop up on my computer. I have changed internet services. How do I correct this problem. "It says thatanother computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact you network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log." I do not know what to do.

Do you have Service pack installed for Windows Vista?

I would suggest you to use the below provided methods and check - **Method 1:**You can get a new IP address for your computer. You might need to do this if you are having connection problems.

a. Click Start. Type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

ipconfig /all (there is a space between ipconfig and /)

The ipconfig /all command displays Windows TCP/IP settings for all your network adapters.

c. ipconfig /release in the command prompt and press ENTER. This releases your current IP address.

d. ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and press ENTER.

The DHCP configuration for all adapters will be renewed. To renew the IP address for a

specific adapter, type the adapter name that appears when you type ipconfig at the command prompt.

Method 2: If the issue persists and you do not have Windows Vista Service Pack installedthen you may refer to the below link and check if using the hot fix assists you resolve the issue -

Also, if it will help me, where will I find my 'windows system event log'?

I'm a 79 year old pc novice & will be grateful for advice.

Means your modem or router has no connection with your computer. Check your cables if they are connected correctly. Make sure your router and modem are on. You might have a faulty network cable. Try to change cables or test it with a working cable of some one first. Call your internet provider tech support ask for help. Call your router Tech support for help.

No hacking here. It might be a glitch in windows 7 and Microsoft should be aware of it since many people are having the same issue. Try to use the command prompt to renew the IP address as it was mentioned in the first page. Call your router Tech support to get help. Turn off your modem and router then turn your modem back on and wait until getting steady lights then turn your router on after. Log on to your router website and try to refresh the connection of the internet. Hopefully any of these steps might help.
