"Windows has detected an IP address conflict"

This continues to pop up on my computer. I have changed internet services. How do I correct this problem. "It says thatanother computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact you network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log." I do not know what to do.

Hi Champions05,

Do you have Service pack installed for Windows Vista?

I would suggest you to use the below provided methods and check - **Method 1:**You can get a new IP address for your computer. You might need to do this if you are having connection problems.

a. Click Start. Type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

ipconfig /all (there is a space between ipconfig and /)

The ipconfig /all command displays Windows TCP/IP settings for all your network adapters.

c. ipconfig /release in the command prompt and press ENTER. This releases your current IP address.

d. ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and press ENTER.

The DHCP configuration for all adapters will be renewed. To renew the IP address for a

specific adapter, type the adapter name that appears when you type ipconfig at the command prompt.

Method 2: If the issue persists and you do not have Windows Vista Service Pack installedthen you may refer to the below link and check if using the hot fix assists you resolve the issue -

Hope this helps.

    I have the same question/situation

another computer with the same IP address that my computer has. How to resolve this problem?

I called my Internet provider and they say they don't find any issues . Every damn week I have problems maybe I should not be so loyal to Microsoft as I pay for some service that never fixes anything and on top of that now their Tech. is trying to take over my computer to have me give them my banking numbers and to sign up with some connect wise 13 I have looked this up on my own and they are scamming people I think you best grab hold of this as the first things out of their mouths is Hi I am the guy that got you all fixed up before with Microsoft and now we have a newer version to load on you. I find you just as responsible and I can't ever get my computer issue that you contact me about Fixed so you are not doing me any good, Straighten this CRAP OUT AND DO IT NOW

Go to Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings -> Whatever the wireless adapter is -> Properties -> unchecking Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). After unchecking it, I haven't had the message come back. Then, I turned it back on and the message popped up almost immediately. So I'm pretty sure it's an IPv6 thing, at least in my case.

Please post any error messages from the Event Viewer concerning IP address conflict or networking (Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer).  Here's how to use Event Viewer: http://www.petri.co.il/vista-event-viewer.htm.  Look in the System section.  There WILL be errors listed.  Click on the errors for more details, copy the details, and paste them in your next reply.  They will very likely tell us what the problem is and/or where to find where the problem is.

Did you use Static IP addresses with your prior ISP?  If so, that could be the issue if the system is assigning the same address to two different computers or devices (or if the computers or devices are set to use these addresses and the new setup changed something (perhaps the router IP) to something already assigned to a computer or something else.  Make sure you are not using static IP addresses and let DHCP assign them for you (unless otherwise directed by the ISP for perhaps the router or some other network device).

At this point, what we need most is the information from the Event Viewer - so get that to us as soon as you can.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
