Set stereo output to mono in Windows 7

I have looked everywhere in sound settings and accessibility settings within Windows 7. I cannot find ANY settings to make the computer output the stereo sound to MONO.  I have REALTEK integrated soundcard on my Gigabyte motherboard.  I have checked in those settings as well.  The ONLY thing I have been able to do is change the balance, and that doesnt solve my problem.  You see, I am deaf in my left ear, so in stereo recordings that I am listening to with headphones on, I miss alot of the sounds within the music or movie or whatever I am listening to.  On my Mac, all I have to do is click a button in the settings, and the computer will play stereo sound through BOTH speakers, which is what I want on my PC.  I cant believe this feature isnt available in Windows 7.  Any ideas?

Hi Xandris,

It’s not possible to change stereo output to mono in Windows 7.

You may either go for third party players that support stereo to mono output. Alternatively you can get a Mono Plug Adapter that converts stereo to mono output.

If you want to leave any feeback about Windows 7, here's a link for that purpose.

    In otherwords M$ ain't gonna fix it and, if you try, M$ will disavow you. Like saying the problem doesn't exist if M$ says it doesn't.

    {

    same thing for the crappy flat look in Windows 10. We're all supposed to cheer when M$ decides that a desktop OS should be dumbed down so it will run on a phone. Pssst:  Almost no one is using a Windows phone. And we're supposed to be ok with M$ complaining that it's just too hard to customize Windows for tablets and phones.  Why should my desktop look like baby poop to make it easier for M$ to do something inane---"it's a crappy idea, but it's now the M$ way, so get used to it."

    }

    Bottom line:  things are the way they are because M$ is lazy, indifferent, arbitrary, dictatorial, petulant...etc. And that's on a good-hair day.

    My reasons for wanting MONO:

    1. I don't like stereo ear plugs (too many wires and I'm extremely tickelish). One wire is bad enough.
    2. I don't need stereo when I'm watching a "how-to" on youtube.
    3. All ear plugs eventually cause pain. It helps if I can switch a single plug from ear to ear.

    My workaround is to use my ipad. It has a MONO switch in Settings\General\Accessibility. I just hope M$ doesn't send someone to take it away. I'm being sarcastic, of course. M$ wouldn't do that---too much effort. [more sarcasm]

    now i know this thread is more than 5 years old but I have a definitive solution for anyone who uses windows 7 and realtek audio manager.

    in order to get the left and right channels playing in one ear u have to go to the speakers tab in realtek audio manager and set it to any of the settings that say cd quality or dvd quality (any of the settings that have 16bit) then click ok  you'll have to do that each time u change it other wise nothing will change.

    this will work but the trade off is the reduction in audio quality. my  recommendation just go up  the settings list in the default format tab until u find a setting that gives u mono and the audio quality u want.

    to test it afterwards just use realteks speaker config tab with the play button to test if it plays both sides

    This should be part of accessibility settings.  Some people can hear out of one ear.
