What happened to the 'Up one folder' button in the Windows Explorer??

Starting with Windows Vista, the 'up one folder level' button has been removed!!  I found this button to be HIGHLY useful and am VERY disappointed it is not there any more... This has drastically slowed down my production speeds!

In the following image from Windows XP Explorer, near the top right between the 'Back/Forward' buttons and the 'Search' button, you see a folder with a green arrow pointing up.  Clicking that button makes the Windows Explorer go "up one folder level" bringing you to the parent folder of your current location:

In the next image from Windows 7 Explorer, you can see that the 'up one folder level' button has been removed:

Is there any way at all to get that button back PLEASE?  This will drastically improve my production speeds...

(Whenever I click a 'browse for file' button in Windows 7, the explorer starts at the last folder I was looking at and I often just want to go one or 2 folder levels higher than that, but the only way to get there is to start completely at the beginning from the C: drive and navigate through all the folders to get there which can get VERY time consuming since I find myself browsing for folders 50 times/day simply cuz the 'up one folder' button is missing...)

Where they returned on Windows 8. I haven't seen it! Would be great!

I have Windows 8.1 and it is definitely there.  8.1 is free if you have 8.  Just Google it. :)

    and use "Shift" when clicking on "Open Folder" to open it in a new window

    If you locate a folder through "search" you can right click on the search result and select "open folder location". That way you get the path on the adress line. Draw-back is that I haven't found a way to open it in a new window, so if you want to open another search result, you need to press the "back button, and that performs the search again.

    Take a walk with me, into the past. The dark ages. The age of black and amber, of two-colour operating systems and 640 kB of RAM. What was the *one* thing that gave MS-DOS a leg-up on linux?

    C:\foo> cd..

    MS-DOS wasn't a better shell, it didn't have better commands, it wasn't more powerful. But it had cd.. And cd.. helped MS-DOS more than anyone will know. It was even better than [tab] for autocomplete of a filename (only recently added to Windows shell).

    And for you kiddies that have never had to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file? cd.. is the same command as "up one folder". It worked then, it works now, to pull the feature out of an OS that was build on the foundation of that one button is akin to shooting oneself in the foot.

    That said, Windows 8 looks like something I will love: both DirectX and cd.. (the up button) on a tablet OS :)
