have seen as high as 7.

they seem to get faster the further along it goes.

look into using AUSLOGICS degragger instead.

faster and also has an option to move system files to the front.

I have a 750 gig HD, It's relatively new with about 100 gig's used and it completed in 6 passes. I believe the number of passes goes up the more fragmented and filled up the volume is. If you pass 10-20 you should probably De-fragment more often and make some more space.

My computer is defraging now and it is on pass 61 so im almost positive it has to do with the amount of memory in your computer.

How much free disk space does the partition  have and how large is the partition? Did you run Disk CleanUp or cCleaner before you started?
