Why are Windows updates so slow (and long) with VISTA

Ya I'm with you guys on the slooowwww updates. I reformatted my pc yesterday and am STILL downloading updates! And I have FiOS! Vista updates are trash. Not only does it take long to download updates, it even takes 15 minutes for it to just search for updates sometimes! That is complete ****!

Windows Vista was designed to rip the end user off, I believe that Microsoft should be forced to supply all the users that have genuine Windows Vista installed a complementary Windows 7 upgrade at no extra cost.

We fork out huge sums of money to these over rated organisations that lead us into believing that the latest product is the next best thing to sliced cheese and we get aload of trash not worth it's value. Microsoft sort out your gold stealing and start looking afer your end users that are losing faith in your products.

I've been dealing with this same bs all day. I dumped windows back during the xp days in favor of a more secure and morally sound os, but i will say thanks to microsoft for keeping my business steady with their poorly designed operating systems that fail more often than not. FYI, i've been setting up all my clients computers with dual booting  or virtual machines so when windows fails them yet again, they won't have to go without entirely. Thanks for never resolving this and truly being a soulless corporation. Bills Gates, who's daddy likes to seed money into the black communities to pay for abortions, Mr. planned parenthood/eugenics, himself. This same man wants to genetically engineer mosquitoes to force medicate people. A simple google search will vouch for these facts. Just ask yourselves this: do you really want to be supporting this monster?

Vista 64bit updates are terribly slow for me also. I run a quadcore Dell Precision T7400 with 3mbps internet and a typical update is 30mins to 1 hour.  I have a copy of the same PC at my office at work and it's about the same.

I've reformatted and reinstalled windows and the updates have always taken forever. 99% of the time the updates are waiting for a while and I just have to restart my PC, I don't really manually search for updates..........

.....which brings me to the real point of my post. I just asked windows to search for updates, and the mere SEARCHING FOR UPDATES process took about 20 minutes. Does anybody else get this ridiculously long delay when asking windows to find updates?

I can't count how many times I have lost a crucial hour of work because my PC crashed (I run some WIP unstable apps) and then I had to run the windows updates (not by choice!) upon reboot.

I'm working on a Vaio lap top with a new Vista install. Every Time I turn it on there are updates. Last night a window popped up with 44 updates, after all night it only installed 13 out of them so I stopped it and started it this morning it never got off the install screen. You have to remember Microsoft controls 90% of the world computers and every new OS has them built in until someone hacks in and hence new updates. Vista is a tremendous memory hog, 7 is a little better but it's a Vista platform. I use Windows Mobil in work, (not by my choice) and it's just as bad. You are going to get the basics from customer support because they know the problem and it only works good under a new system with no clutter of files in there, besides Microsoft knows your are going to come back any way, so much for the feds to stop a monopoly.
