You have no idea what you're talking about, he said photo viewer because that's the issue, same as i'm having, not powerpoint. What on earth makes you think this has anything to do with powerpoint, you are not competent to reply telling people to use powerpoint to view photos.

I made a reply to someone else on page 4. Go and try IrfanView. It's what I have been using for years. It loads easy and works really well for .gif files. (those moving ones people make all the time) and for any other file that may or may not want to open with the default photoviewer. I also recommend updating your system to windows 7 or at this point windows 8. I'm going to link it this time, I didn't know if I'd get in trouble for doing so but I'm doing it. I'm sure there are other programs, stuff you could purchase. But I've grown fond of IrfanView and I really wouldn't pick up anything else. http://www.irfanview.com/

Are you using an XP computer or are you up to date with a windows 7 or 8 computer? When I had this issue I was still on my xp before it died. I'm running a windows 7 computer now and have had few issues. If for some reason photoviewer does not work. You should try IrfanView. I will not link it here but google it. It's a simple program, loads easy and works really well. I use it to quickly paste screen shots and crop as well as for all GIF images because they wouldn't work in my photoviewer. You don't have to pick it up if you don't want to, just saying it works if your photoviewer wont. (even if it does work it's a handy tool to have.)

Hi Arielnancy,

As the sentence suggests, the picture file format may not be supported or you do not have the latest updates to photo viewer.

Windows Photo Viewer can only view .jpg and .jpeg, .tif and .tiff, .png, .gif, .bmp and .dib, .wdp file types.

You may follow the steps below:

1. Right click on any one of the picture and select Open With and click Change Default program.

2. Now select the Windows Photo Viewer in the list.

3. Now put a check mar for “Always use a selected program to open this kind of file”.

You may also try opening the same picture using Paint and check if you are able to open without any issues.

Check if you don't have file extensions displayed by default, right-click on an offending image and look at the file's name.

If you have not set it as default program to open images, do this :

Change which programs Windows uses by default

A default program is the program that Windows uses when you open a particular type of file, such as a music file, an image, or a webpage. For example, if you have more than one web browser installed on your computer, you can choose one of them to be the default browser.

Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Default Programs.

In Default Programs, you can:

· Set your default programs. Use this option to choose which programs you want Windows to use by default. If you want to use your Windows Live Photo Gallery or Photo Gallery to open all photos, use this option.

When I had this issue I was still on my xp before it died. I'm running a windows 7 computer now and have had few issues.

If for some reason photoviewer does not work. You should try IrfanView. I will not link it here but google it. It's a simple program, loads easy and works really well. I use it to quickly paste screen shots and crop as well as for all GIF images because they wouldn't work in my photoviewer. You don't have to pick it up if you don't want to, just saying it works if your photoviewer wont. (even if it does work it's a handy tool to have.)
