Hello kim,

I´ve done what you´ve suggested, and now i get the error 0x80070424........Can You help me?....Please....

Hey Dalton,

I moved your reply to a new thread since it's a new error code.

The error code 0x80070424 you described also means "ERROR_SERVICE_DOES_NOT_EXIST".  Windows Update depends on these two following services:

  1. Windows Update
  2. Background Intelligent Transfer (BIT)

If it happens that these services are disable or missing, you will encounter this error code.  Hence, you will need to ensure that the necessary services are available and running.  Here's how:

1.       Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search text area, and then click services.msc in the programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

2.       Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

3.       If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Startand then click OK.

4.       Double-click Windows Update.

5.       If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Startand then click OK.

6.       Double-click Workstation.

7.       If the Startup status lists Stopped, click Start and then click OK.

8.       Close the Services window and try to install updates again.

If the Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not appear in the list of Services, click the following link to view the KB article on the Microsoft web site and download the update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939159/en-us.

    Hi folks, I have encountered the same problems - trying to install Service Pack 3 but i can't do it without Install. NET Framework 4.0 - tried that... now been directed to Windows Update...

    Did the whole services.msc and the Windows Update is not listed. (However the other two are - Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Workstation [are listed!])

    Please help restore my sanity and faith in technology.

    HI. Is there a solution for this running windows 7 home premium 64. error 0x8007024  is driving me nuts. I tried this but does not work on my computer. tnx.

    Just wondering if you could send me the fix it die-ed in to let me put it through my system to see if it helps.  Since initially writing, I've had no troubles so would you recommend for me to do anything at this point?  Kevin M. Callihan Sr. Esq. [Retired, Disabled person since 1/10/2001.]  I've been a 30 year tenure attorney at law without any experience on technical functioning of my computer.  So, I just wanted your expert knowledge.  It would be great if you could do a SCAN in order to see any potential conflicts that are already on my system, then run with it.  Otherwise, I'm not sure what to do.  Thanks in advance for your kind reply.  ******@hotmail.com; Kevin M.
