I drove my self crazy trying to remedy this dilema for two days. I finally downloaded a program from Stardock called Windows Blinds. That solved my problem.
Cannot change desktop background in Windows 7 Home Premium
I noticed that someone else had this problem. Does anyone know how to fix it?

2011-06-22T15:29:18+00:00 I am having a terrible time with my desktop background suddenly. I have had my Vaio for a year and I've never had a problem with desktop themes or anything. I ran an update on 6/21/11 and suddenly my wallpaper will not change (well it was frozen on one wallpaper, in my desperation to change it I changed to a high contrast theme which turned the background black, now it is stuck on black). I downloaded that Windows Blinds program but I didn't like it and I just really want my slide show back. It looks like other people have had this problem and there's no real solution. I already ran a system restore and it did not fix the problem. I tried to go into the slideshow.ini file to clear it out and it told me access denied even though I am the administrator and only user on the computer. I am extremely frustrated and I'm really hoping that I won't have to wipe the entire computer just to get my wallpaper slideshow back.

I do get to see the pic I have chosen as a background only when my laptop is shutting down. I have been reading the forums and gateways web site for any help. I am out of ideas. yes i have right clicked my desktop .
