trying to get replacement USB transceiver for my wireless keyboard

I've lost the USB transceiver for my wireless keyboard/mouse set, trying to find out where I can get a replacement for it without having to get a whole new keyboard & mouse just for that one transceiver.

I talked with Microsoft today and, yes, the person who answered stated that there are NO replacements for the receiver, and I would have to buy a new set up.  After asking to talk to someone who had some technical knowledge and getting no where, I asked for a supervisor.  I was on hold for several minutes, but I was not going to give up.  Finally a supervisor answered and after explaining that I knew something about computers, he offered to send me a whole new unit, free of charge.  And to top that off, he said he would expidite the order and it would ship to me in 1 - 3 days. 

The number that I called is 800-360-7561, option 2.  Make sure that you ask to talk to a supervisor, as the people that answer haven't a clue.  They just read off of a script.  I hope that this helps someone out there.  Microsoft wants to keep their ccustomers and WILL do what it takes to keep them.

    One has to think there is a magical combination of keys to put the device in a learning mode to match up a new receiver. They don't likely hard code a specific receiver to a specific KB&M combo, that would be a massive expenditure of resources for a 2 dollar part. In the olden days, you could "teach" the KB&M to talk with a receiver, they have just eliminated that step because some end users have issues following simple directions, and ship them that way.

    From their point of view, why triage something that is worth 2 bucks when they can chareg you another 25 for a new set?

    Grrrrr.  Same problem.  Now I have a perfectly good mouse and keyboard that I cant use.  Waste of money not to mention the environment to throw out perfectly good stuff.  I have another wireless mouse by another manufacturer.  It's older and still works great.  I wanted a mouse/keyboard combo.  I bought Microsoft because I thought it would last long and trusted it.  Talking to others after it broke, everyone I know that has used  MS wireless mouse/keyboards has experienced the same problem.  I should have read reviews first.  This will be the last time I buy Microsoft accessories.

    Does anybody know if I buy a USB transceiver from other COMBO my COMBO will work?

    There's a guy offering me a USB transceiver (and the mouse. keyboard died) for my exact model of COMBO.

    Very disappointing.  The more I hear about MicroSoft, the less I like MicroSoft.   Not inclined to support them anymore.

    I too am very concerned about contributing to landfills.  Now I have to figure out if this can be recycled - what a pain!

    We had three out of four Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo 800's recievers stop working all within about 4 months of purchase.  They are cheap so I guess we could just purchase them again and chuck the ones that don't work.  My really big issue with this is I am contributing three keyboards and three mouse's(?) to landfill.  DO MICROSOFT NOT CONSIDER THIS TO BE A HUGE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE!!!!!!!!!  Why can't we get replacements for the smallest components and save sending the bigger stuff to landfill.  C'mon Microsoft, lift your game! 

    I Agree, This is a clear intention to create E-WASTE for no reason. If other vendors are able to produce such components why cant MS do it ? and What's the use to couple and hard code the component??? Can you guide if any compatible device I can buy from some other vendor.. if you wish to do that ?? Targeting 3 world countries to sell the product and creating billions and trillions of these E-WASTE, without this small device the keyboard and mouse is simply a WASTE on your face. Common MS, think of it and DO SOMETHING
