I HAVE A VISTA HOME PREMIUM COMPUTER. I UPGRADED THE JAVA TO 6U13. AFTER THE UPGRADE THE JAVA WOULDN'T WORK. I CALLED HP AND IT WAS DECIDED TO RESTORE THE COMP TO THE ORIGIONAL STATE WHEN BOUGHT AND WAS TOLD TO REDOWNLOAD JAVA, BUT FIRST I DID ALL THE WINDOWS UPDATES FIRST. THEN DOWNLOADED THE JAVA AND STILL DIDN'T WORK. UNINSTALLED AND DOWNLOADED AN EARLIER VERSION STILL DIDN'T WORK. THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR I DISCOVERED THAT THE JAVA ICON WAS NOT IN THE INTERNET OPTIONS ON THE ADVANCED TAB. CALLED HP BACK AGAIN AND THEY WENT THROUGH THE SECURITY WITH ME AND TOLD ME TO REDOWNLOAD IT AGAIN AND THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I WENT TO JAVA .COM FOR THE DOWNLOAD. CHECKED THE VIRTUAL MACHINE AND THE MAN DANCED SAID IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY. i FOUND THE 6U13 IN THE CONTROL PANEL AND IN THE ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS. I WAS TOLD TO GO TO THE START AND TYPE IN JAVA. THE RESULTS WAS NO ITEMS FOUND. THEN WAS TOLD THAT IT DOWNLOADED TO THE COMP BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHERE. IT MUST HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED TO C DRIVE. ALSO WHEN THE COMP WAS RECOVERED EVEN THOUGH I HAD THR DISC TO THE PRINTER IT SAID IT WASN'T COMPATABLE HAD TO GO AND DOWNLOAD THE DRIVER OFF THE INTERNET TO GET IT TO WORK. ALSO ONCE THE JAVA WAS LOADED IT SAID IT WASN'T COMPATABLE THATS WHY I WENT TO AN EARLIER VERSION. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT THE INTERNET PROVIDER IS AOL. THANK YOU

I can. I have Vista Home Premium, SP2, Java 6 Update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). I also have a Java icon in my control panel but neither 'Java' or 'Sun Microsystems' is listed in Start > All programs.

This website requires an applet to run, which used to work for me everyday. (No, I don't have a clue what changed, lots of stuff changes everyday.)
I cannot uninstall using Control Panel. When I hit 'uninstall' nothing happens. I've enabled Java in IE 8 Tools > Manage Ad Ons, and jumped up and down three times. I've also reverted IE 8 to default options using Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset and jumped up and down five times.
Finally I got nervous and ran some Windows Live scan program, which fixed 397 registry errors and made my HP lappie zip along at Interstate speed, but no Java jivin' yet.
When I checked Sun's website I ended up in their forums where they were saying things like edit the registry, which I can do but not ready to try that yet. My Java directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Java
If you can help me I'll pay it forward and jump up and down ten times.
ive had this same problem for about two weeks and think i finally got it fixed today. i went to start panel clicked programs then pc help and tools then recovery manager and i reinstalled java and adobe and flash player it fixed my problems hope this helps =))

I did the "reset" and it worked!!!
I still didn't see the Java Sun in the advance tab as I had before, but the Java now works. Thanks guys for the tips!!!
