Windows 7 - Unidentified Network No Internet Access

I have a new Packard Bell PC with Windows 7 preinstalled.  I have had the tower replaced once, as it was suspected that the issue was caused by a fault with the wireless card.

I initially connected to the internet - albeit slowly and briefly.  It shows that it is connected with my network but whatever I try I have Unidentified Network and No Internet Access showing

I can connect through a 3mobile dongle.  Just not via the wireless card.

I have looked at so many suggested fixes, and have tried as many as I am able, but I am so lost as to what to try next.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Hello again

We have some problems with this happening at work. We found out that the issue has something to do with IP version 6.

We found out that disableling the IPv6 protocol helped.

I welcome you to try it.

First off you need to start a command prompt with admin rights. This can be done by pressing the start button, choosing "All Programs" --> Accessories --> and rightclicking Commandprompt, choose "Run as administrator".

Im sitting on a Danish language box, and the translations are made from memory.

Once you got your command prompt type the following:

netsh <press enter>

interface ipv6 <enter>

isatap set state state=disabled <enter>

The prompt will respond with an "OK" if it was succesfull.

to exit type:

quit <enter>

If you need to reverse the change and return to standard settings, do the above but replace the word in the isatap command "disabled" with "enabled". Very very few networks run Ip version 6, so the change has pretty low impact, but the bug is really annoying.

Let me hear if it helps.

Try disabling the McAfee network agent service. Run > "msconfig" > Services. I disabled the mcafee network agent and the mcafee firewall core service.

This solution fixed it for me!

3 month old Dell laptop, preinstalled with McAfee trial suddenly had this "Unidentified Network no internet access". Thanks to this forum for the solution.

You are a genius my friend!!

I have a Huawei E586 mifi dongle from 3mobile and have been using my works Dell pc with win xp on it fine, no problems.

I got a new laptop from my employer on Wednesday with win7 on it. I took it home and despite connecting to the internet via the dongle and usb lead it absolutely refused to connect to the internet via my wifi connection. Kept saying it was connected to my wifi but no internet access and i had no valid ip address.

I spoke with 3 mobile who spent 2 HOURS on the phone to me today remotely connected to my laptop trying everything under the sun only to come up with the solution that they thought my network card was corrupt. Which i knew probably wasnt the case as my work had set this lapto up from brand new and as a compliance company our equipment has to work!!

I told the guy on the phone numerous times I thought it was something to do with the wifi router not recognising my ip address (im no IT expert but im pretty good where my pc knowledge is concerned). I told him id brought my old work  laptop, that could get on the internet, home to grab the ip and gateway details in case they needed it but he assured me the whole time it wasnt that and they were qualified to figure this problem out. 3 days and a 2 hour phonecall later and still they hadnt sorted it. I evenm looked at the screen you suggested myself and typed my ip address in manually to see if i could work round it that way as i was convinced it was just a case of getting my router to recognise my ip.

Im sooo glad i persevered and read your post as i did this and the thing works perfectly!! I KNEW I was right about the ip and gateway addresses!! So much for 3mobiles tech support eh??!!
