Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is missing on my computer

I am trying to upload pictures from my digital camera and it goes to a box for cds , (like I want to put it on a cd) not the normal one that comes up for putting pictures in a file. I looked for " Windows Picture and Fax Viewer " and can not find it on my computer anywhere. I have no idea where it went. PLEASE help me recover this. I did a system restore back to when it was there, and still it is not there.

Just to verify...you must be running Win XP (not Vista) to

have WP&FV...

The following command should force a reinstall of WP&FV...

Go to...Start / Run and type

(or copy/paste):

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

(yes, the space after the 2 and the space

after the i is required)

Press...Enter...

You should see a dialog box that says:

DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shimgvw.dll succeeded

Well followed instructions and windows created a new shimgvw.dll file but, when I ran the command I recieved the same response. I really thought that was a neat trick that might work. Any other tricks??

I'm running out of ideas.....

The following command should launch a blank Windows Picture And Fax

Viewer screen. It will say: No Preview Available.

rundll32.exe c:\windows\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen

(just copy/paste this command into the Run box and press Enter)

If nothing happens after you enter the command and press Enter...

try holding your Ctrl key and press Enter once again.
