Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is missing on my computer

I am trying to upload pictures from my digital camera and it goes to a box for cds ,  (like I want to put it on a cd) not the normal one that comes up for putting pictures in a file. I looked for " Windows Picture and Fax Viewer " and can not find it on my computer anywhere. I have no idea where it went. PLEASE help me recover this. I did a system restore back to when it was there, and still it is not there.

Just to verify...you must be running Win XP (not Vista) to

have WP&FV...

The following command should force a reinstall of WP&FV...

Go to...Start / Run and type

         (or copy/paste):

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

(yes, the space after the 2 and the space

after the i is required)

Press...Enter...

You should see a dialog box that says:

DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shimgvw.dll succeeded

    Apparently your file associations for photos were set to

    Picture It! and that software is no longer on your system...

    or maybe it was an OEM trial version that has expired.

    You have confirmed that you have Windows Picture and

    Fax Viewer...now you need to change the file association

    for your photos so they will open in Windows Picture and

    Fax Viewer.

    Try this...open an image folder and right click one

    of your image files...from the menu, select...Open

    With / Choose Program.

    Make your choice from the list or Browse to the

    correct program if it is not in the list. If you want

    the Windows XP default...choose "Windows

    Picture and Fax Viewer".

    Once you make your selection...be sure to check

    the box that says: "Always use the selected program

    to open this kind of file". (you will need to do this

    for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

    Also...you can right click an image and from the

    menu...choose...Properties / Change Button...

    choose the program you wish to use and click...

    OK / Apply / OK.

    Restore point before editing the registry)

    I have the same problem, I can't find " Windows Picture and Fax Viewer " on my computer anywhere.

    I made the steps you said, Start/Run, etc., but the dialog box said:

    "LoadLibrary ("shimgvw.dll") failed - Invalid acces to memory location."

    So?... What is it to do?
