Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is missing on my computer

I am trying to upload pictures from my digital camera and it goes to a box for cds ,  (like I want to put it on a cd) not the normal one that comes up for putting pictures in a file. I looked for " Windows Picture and Fax Viewer " and can not find it on my computer anywhere. I have no idea where it went. PLEASE help me recover this. I did a system restore back to when it was there, and still it is not there.

Just to verify...you must be running Win XP (not Vista) to

have WP&FV...

The following command should force a reinstall of WP&FV...

Go to...Start / Run and type

         (or copy/paste):

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

(yes, the space after the 2 and the space

after the i is required)

Press...Enter...

You should see a dialog box that says:

DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shimgvw.dll succeeded

    I tried your solution and it did not work. WP&FV opens up, says it is generating a preview and then it closes right away

    Thanks, I had a user with this issue.  Re-registering the dll resolved the issue.

    As I understand it I cannot get Windows Picture & Fax Viewer if I am running Vista. 

    Is that correct?
