Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is missing on my computer

I am trying to upload pictures from my digital camera and it goes to a box for cds , (like I want to put it on a cd) not the normal one that comes up for putting pictures in a file. I looked for " Windows Picture and Fax Viewer " and can not find it on my computer anywhere. I have no idea where it went. PLEASE help me recover this. I did a system restore back to when it was there, and still it is not there.

Just to verify...you must be running Win XP (not Vista) to

have WP&FV...

The following command should force a reinstall of WP&FV...

Go to...Start / Run and type

(or copy/paste):

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

(yes, the space after the 2 and the space

after the i is required)

Press...Enter...

You should see a dialog box that says:

DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shimgvw.dll succeeded

i have found the solution to hardware assited virtulization....there is an update to remove HAV requirments for using XP in Windows 7.....use it if your computer does not support HAV only....now i have XP running on 7 as a program**....why didnt any Microsoft Techs know this info???????**

well I have good news and bad news.............yes you can download 2 programs to run Windows XP in Windows 7.....The Windows XP Mode program and The Windows Virtual PC program. This will allow you to run XP as a program, not an operating system. The bad news is your computer's CPU must support hardware-assisted virtualization, make sure it's turned on. You might need to turn on virtualization settings in your computer's basic input/output system (BIOS). ....you can also run a compatibility program to see if you have hardware assited virtualization.....just my luck my Dell Dimension E510 does not support this function.....anyone know why?

yes you can run virtual xp program in windows 7 if you have ulitmate edition....you have 3 downloads for xp and virtual pc the enable XP programs to run in windows 7...it will be located in your list of programs....i will keep you updated ....follow the above link and do the 3 downloads

Hmmmm......a thread about windows picture and fax viewer. I wonder if he was referring to that program.....

Anyway, no, you can't run the windows xp picture and fax view on windows 7 without manually copying over all the required files for it to work......and even then it might not. Some xp programs work by doing that and some don't.

Windows XP Mode for windows 7 is suppose to look like windows xp and have the same programs in it, but I have not tried it yet to verify that this program is included in it. Check it out here:
