Cannot rip CD, cannot change album info

Since upgrading to Windows 7 this month, my Windows Media Player experience is considerably worse than it was under Vista.

I cannot rip CDs now - I get the error: "Windows Media Player cannot rip one or more tracks from the CD".

I cannot set a rip location - under the Rip Music tab in Option, the location is blank and when I click on the Change button, nothing happens. No error, no dialog, no message, nothing.

I cannot change album info - I choose the "Find album info" option, choose the album/track, click OK and nothing happens. No changes, nothing.

Please someone help...!

Welcome to Microsoft Answers community.

Perform sfc scan in your computer.

System File Checker(sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.

Steps to perform sfc scan:

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.

3. In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:

sfc /scannow

4. You should see the following on-screen messages:

Beginning the system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

Verification % complete.

5. Once the scan has completed you will receive an onscreen message resembling one of the following:

… found no integrity violations

… found corruption but repaired it

… found corruption that it could not repair

Clear the Windows Media Player database and check if the problem persists.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Exit Windows Media Player.

2. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.

4. Restart Windows Media Player.

If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Exit Windows Media Player.

2. If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

3. Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

4. Restart Windows Media Player.

If the above method didn’t work then, you can try reinstalling it by following the steps below.

1. Click on Start button and select Control Panel

2. Click on Programs and then select Programs and Features

3. Click Turn Windows features on or off on the left, go into the Media Features section and uncheck Windows Media Player, press OK to uninstall Windows Media Player.

4. You may need to reboot. Afterwards go back and re-check Windows Media Player to install it once more.

Hi, I have spent some time with this issue, which seemed to appear from nowhere? I have followed the definitive instructions above, to no avail.

Ripping was never a problem, ever! So I worked backwards through various installations over the last couple of months. Finally I came to i-tunes 10.5.2.11 removed this and related updates via control panel and WMP now rips. So whilst I don't think there is an issue with either software component alone, together, well my experience is that they don’t play well together.

I’m no expert but this is something to check if the above options fail, hope this assists someone.

I just wanted to point out that this was in reference to windows media player 12 etc... all of the other versions of windows media player like 10 9 etc.... i never had a problem ripping music with. Onece again here is what you can do in windows 7 operating system pc's with windows media player version 11 12 etc...

Ok here is the easiest way to do this i had the same problems as everyone else but i solved this by doing this: click on my computer, right click your cd burner drive or the drive you have the cd in, go down to the bottom where it says properties click on properties and select shairing, then just click on the shairing option and close out , open windows media player try ripping a cd it will work.

My pc i use to record with i do not have conected to the internet at all, which i found was weird to have to select shairing because it is not connected only for updates, most people at home etc... are on a router or modem so selecting shairing is nothing to worry about. would like to know if this worked for any one.

Hope this helps, one thing i have learned in this world is you have to save your self when it comes to info weather it is a doctor or a pc etc... researching your self forget about asking these guys who make these operating systems.
