Cd won't rip using Windows Media Player in windows 7

I just got Windows 7 a few weeks ago and have had no trouble until now to rip cds.

It now however shows "windows media player cannot rip one or more tracks from the cd"

I have gone into TOOLS - OPTIONS - DEVICES - DRIVE , clicked Use error connection (both playback and rip are defaulted to digital) No change

I have gone to RIP MUSIC tab and tried to slide the Audio Quality bar and/or change the rip format, but when I do I get "the settings for ripping music could not be suppied" and they reset to original settings.

I have gone into Registry Editor and deleted the low rate MP3 encoding rate and still no change - it just keeps giving me the "windows media player cannot rip one or more tracks from the cd".

any ideas??????????

Open WMP

Go into Tools - Options - Rip Music and see if you have a location the music is being ripped to. I didn't when I looked, it was blank.

then go to Organise - Manage Libraries - Music, there should be a music folder location here, if there isn't press "add" and add the music folder.

Now do the same for the other 3 libraries, Videos, Pictures and Recorded tv, all should have locations, delete the ones without a location.

try to rip again.

hopefully like me you will be off and running again.

Hi,

I successfully used Shinmila's instructions in Windows 10 Windows Media Player initially, and my library has since been reloaded twice. Most of the instruction here refers to Windows 7 but I'm guessing the issue is a common one.

I'm still getting the same...

'Please insert a blank disc in CD Drive (D:). Once Windows Media Player detects the new disc, it will automatically start burning' message AFTER inserting a new blank disc which whirrs for a few seconds then does nothing. When I press 'Burn' the dialogue message above appears.

Any ideas please??????

Finding the 'Rip Music' tab via 'Organize' and 'Options' route was not the problem I was having; I found that easy enough. The real rectal chapper is that it won't let me save to any other storage but my hard drive unless I format (erase) all my data from my storage, something I don't wish to do. My HD is reserved for programs only. I would prefer to save to an SD card which is where I keep all my files. I saw where one person saved to an external hard drive; that may be a route I will be forced to use, if it will work for me, but I'd rather not have the dangling bulk even packed away. A convenient compact thumb drive or SD card would be nice but no-go there, at least. not without throwing away the last four years of files.

Saving to an SD prevents HD clutter and when the time comes to format Drive C, having all your files on an alternate storage saves a ton of time loading everything back in, like for instance, hundreds of CD's and a zillion of backed-up documents.
