I talked to a netflix technical assistant tonight and he tried to help me with this problem, but was unsuccessful. The error code I receive from Netflix is N8156-6003. He walked me through many different procedures to fix the problem and nothing seems to be working. He even directed me to try tinyurl.com/netflixsl and after the individualizing it goes to opening and stays there. My laptop is on 8 months old and is not used very often, not sure what the issue is, Netflix seems to think it is a problem with microsoft, please help.

After loading the page to watch a video, right click the applet, then click Silverlight.
On the Playback tab ensure that the “Enable download...” option is selected.
On the Application Storage tab, click Delete all to clear any cached files.

In Italy, apart Netflix, we have also a Telecom (tel. company) streaming service called "TIMVISION" using Silverlight, randomly causing the same issue!
Your fix finally solved my issue with TIMVISION stuck at "Buffering..." screen with some unknown errors about user authentication both in IE11 (11.212.10586.0, update 11.0.30) and FFox 45.02! Thanks a lot! :)

Depending on your version of OS, it seems Silverlight is missing some files or has some wrong version of some files installed.
Solution: No matter whether you have an incomplete installation of Silverlight in the system or not, install Silverlight 5 SDK and reboot.
This will install all missing files and/or correct versions of drivers and after that Silverlight will install and run just fine.
