Hi,Almost everytime I open Windows Media Player 12 it crashes. Usually the Window opens but is greyed out and the cursor indicates that it is busy.I have tried both of the following Methods to resolve the issue. Method 1. Click on Start and in the search bar type cmd.exe Right click on cmd.exe and click on Run as Administrator In the command prompt type the following command net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add 4. Press enter and restart the computer Method 2.Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Windows Media Player: **Step 1.Uninstalling the Windows Media Player:**1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off". Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off". Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player. Restart the computer Step 2. **Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:**1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off". Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off". Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player. Restart the Computer. Method 2 fixes the problem. However, it has gotten to the point that WMP 12 is unusable as it crashes almost everytime and I'm not prepared to have to restart my PC twice in order to view a video or listen to some music.Come on Microsoft - please get your this sorted and give us a proper, permanent fix to this inherant Windows 7/WMP 12 problem.Regards,Jonesyboi

I am also having problems with Media Player 12 on my Windows 7 Laptop. I have a Sony Vaio VGN CW21Z which has Core 2 Duo T6400 @ 2GHz, 4Gb RAM. The machine is less than 9 months old and had a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. So my music files are stored on an external Hard Drive (L:) and what happens is as follows:- Double click on MP3 file it sometimes crashes Media Player with "Server Execution Failed" in the pop up form. I can select "Play" from the menu and sometimes the Album plays fine other times I get the "Server ..." pop up. The same happens when I drag and drop files from the directory into the Media Player Play list. My laptop is completely up to date with patches (Vaio and Microsoft) and the above occur whether the wireless network is switched on or off. The machine needs to be restarted before Media Player will then work properly. Can anyone please help me correct this problem Regards Diggers

Same problem when opening launching WMP on win 7 32 bit. I can open it with a file and it works fine. Open it directly from start menu and crash. The crash doesn't happen until I put the mouse over the player, move or re size the player. same APP crash with Indiv01.key as mentioned above. I noticed another used also has the nvidia 8800 card. scf /scannow found no problems. Video acceleration had no effect, nor should I have to "work around" this issue. So much for using WMP, guess I need to find a product that works..

Please Microsoft, for goodness sakes, just supply a fix in the Windows Updates. We pay big money for upgrading to these new operating systems, and one of your most important features is crashing all the time. I really thought Windows 7 was the best yet, but already it is starting to be as buggy as all the previous versions. I am not going to waste my hours trying to fix this thing. You are the professionals, go ahead and FIX IT please! I do not work for you, and I am not part of a free online community like Linux, rather I am a paying customer who expects the product to work! If my car breaks down 2 months after buying it new, I am not expected to get under the bonnet and fix it. So spend some of your money and fix the problems. Thank you. Please alert us when the update is ready to download. Meanwhile, I suspect you have some very disullusioned customers out there. Enough.

I had this problem for months it was really pissing me off. But I sorted it.

The problem was corrupted files in pictures, not wmp or the music that I assumed would be the issue.

Cure................ go to pictures and video. I had some files that had no image. These were the corrupted files that were causing the problem. I had 8 photos & 2 videos that I downloaded from my iPhone 5. I Just don't understand how or why it happened. Not a clue.

Even deleting them was hard, as I went to delete them WMP would shutdown.

So I googled and download ' File Assassin' job done all working fine now.

I was cursing Microsoft WMP, but in fact, Apple was the cause of the problem.

Good luck, WMP is so much better than ITunes.

If it works let me know. I Just would like to know if it helps someone.
