unable to delete songs in windows media player

The song files are already deleted off of my recycle bin but i can not delete them off of windows media player. when i click on them they say "Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted." I have had this problem before and i figured out how to delete them but i have no idea how i did it. i can't remember.

This is the reply that I received that solved my problem.

Reply:

Hi,

This might be because of the corruption in Windows Media Player. Let’s try rebuilding the Media library and check if that helps.

** Shutdown windows media player. 

** Stop the media sharing service.  Go to Start >> Type in Services.msc in start search >> Right-click on the “Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service” and select Stop.

** Navigate to “c:\Users\”your username”\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player.  Now delete the files named CurrentDatabase_***.wmdb and LocalMLS_*.wmdb. 

** Start the media sharing service.

** Now start Windows Media Player and watch it build up your library again.

        Your suggestion worked great.  I have all my tunes on a flash drive and am hoping my computer is faster without all the music on WMP.

    I'm sorry that it took me so long to get back to you. I don't know if the procedure to correct this problem has changed with Windows 8.1 or not. However, I have gone over the process several times and I am unable to recreate the solution that resolved my issue with deleting songs from Media Player.

    I hope that you can find someone with more knowledge than I to help you.

    how do I shut down media player?

    When I type on the search box I get no response?
