Hi there, have you tried this?Right click an empty space on your desktop, highlight desktop icons, place a check on 'lock icons in place' and uncheck'auto arrange,?
How can I lock desktop icons?
I am unable to LOCK the icon items on my desktop. I have clicked right on the desktop and via properties checked lock items, yet they are easily moved and NOT locked. I've tried locking them thru 'Appearances and Themes', yet they will NOT lock. How can I get them to stop moving around and stay put by locking. Any help would be graciously appreciated. And, no I am not changing my resolution which I know moves them.

Re "Locking Down Desktop Icons."
1. FYI, What works best on my Windows 10 Pro is:
a.“Blank” Grid Spaces seems to me to be the major cause of Icon movements.
b. The key seems to be establishing a “FULL” desktop, NO blank or empty grid spaces.
c. Use “dummy” filler Icons if necessary, any Folder or Link works.
d. The desktop needs to be either FULL “Left to Right” SQUARE or else FULL “Top to Bottom”.
e. Odd Icons need to be in the “UPPER RIGHT” column, no blank grids top to bottom. This is the KEY in my case!
f. See my attached Desktop Full Grid photo!
g. However,First, Go through the “MikeDickie” recommendation of:
(1) 'Auto-arrange Icons' - Off.
(2) 'Align Icons to Grid' - On.
(3) Right-clicked on your desktop.
(4) Click on 'Personalize.' (There is NO 'Desktop Icons Settings' at this stage!)
(5) 'Themes'
(6) 'Desktop Icons Settings'
(7) Deselect: 'Allow themes to change desktop Icons'
2. Judi, Logging off and then logging back on after re-arranging Icons is only a TEMPORARY fix!
3. This “Full Grid” technique works for me; hope it helps all others.

2018-01-19T15:56:02+00:00 When I right click a blank space , I don't get the option desktop icons. I have tried another sugggestion to log off and then log back on after re-arranging my icons. So far it seems to be working.
Thank you for your interest in this matter.

J.G.Yes. After I highlighted the desktop icons, I was unable to "check", or select option to "lock icons in place", or uncheck "auto arrange".
