ERROR CODE 80072EFE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO UPDATE IN WINDOWS UPDATE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. McAFEE installed after win security ess. uninstalled. several problems w/  programs " not responding" constantly and pc running very slow.  compaq presario  SR5550F

    VB Geek....

    Seems like Rootkit which may have infected MBR..

    By the way.. what is the Operating system.??

    I tried your method and tdsskiller crashes at 80% initialization every single time.

    Are there any other ideas?

    Hi

    I have seen this error quite often.

    Error 80072EFE is related to Update server closing the connection.

    Mosty likely, the computer may be infected with ROOTKITS.

    Try to run TDSSKILLER to find any rootkits.

    Download and run from here

    http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

    Then try to update Windows
