Typing Issues (Jumping cursor...moves my text to another line while typing)

Someone please help with this Issue!!!  Everytime I type my cursor jumps around and I have to keep going back and deleting and retyping.  Please help

Hi Tim,

Are you using a laptop by chance?  If so, you can resolve this issue by taking a look at your touchpad options.  If you're using Windows 7, click the Start button, type Mouse in the search field, and click Enter.  There should be an option to change the Device Settings for the TouchPad.  On many models, Synaptics is the maker of the TouchPad and has a Tab of its own in the Mouse properties.  If you don't see these settings, you'll need to install the drivers from your manufacturers website. 

For Dell machines, you can go to support.dell.com.  Select your model and you'll find the driver under Input Device Drivers.  For Compaq/HP machines, go to support.hp.com, select your model and find Keyboard, Mouse and Input devices.

I like to disable the Tap option and raise the PalmCheck sensitivity option.   These are the first options I always change when I get a new laptop; otherwise I have the very same problem.

    Hi I've had the same problem. Mine is Acer Aspire.  I completely disabled my touchpad and buttons (and use an external mouse only). The problem still persists, so it has nothing to do with the touchpad or drivers.

    After trying many different fixes, this is the best one I know:

    Use the "Esc" ("escape" key on your keyboard to stop your cursor jumping around. Its only a temporary fix, but it helps a lot when you're typing. If you keep pressing Esc key from time to time then it wont jump around at all. Its not great but its the only thing that works for me.

    I'm quite sure this problem is due to some Windows updates (I have Windows 7 Home). I removed the most recent Windows updates (when my problem started about 1 year ago) then disabled Windows updates for a few months, during which my laptop worked fine. However, the problem came back for no reason.. and I've tried updating windows again hoping for a permanent fix.. no help at all.

    I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!    It is a process called Windows Error Reporting Manager (WERMGR.EXE) that is causing this annoying issue.  

    Bring up your start menu

    Type "How To Check for Solutions" in the search bar, and click on that.

    Scroll down to "Never Check for Solutions"

    PRESTO!  The annoying behavior STOPS!

    Now you can go back to setting your touchpad to whatever settings you want - it has NOTHING to do with the touchpad, as I suspected all along (I never touch it while I am typing and KNEW that wasn't the problem!!)

    I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop running Win 7 and office 2010. The jumping cursor is a significant problem that Sony wasn't able to resolve for me. For much of my work I use an external mouse. Since learning the touchpad may be the culprit I have been careful not to even brush the touchpad but it still happens in more than one program. I'm pleased to see a variety of possible solutions and am excited to see if any work. Thanks!

    Tim, Barbara told you have a problem with your hand touching the touchpad and causing the typing to jump.  Ylur drivers have nothing to do with it. Change the settings for the touchpad's sensitivity, or alternatively, turn off the touchpad and get an external keyboard and mouse.
