My audio stops working after Windows 7 has been running for a while;

Ideas:

  • the audio will work again after a re-boot but again, it will stop working after Windows has been running for a while. Re-bootig always fixes the problem but only for a few hours and then the audio is gone. audio problem

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft answers forum.

You can check for the sound drivers, whether they are installed correctly.

if not uninstall them and install again.

I suggest you to verify that the default sound device is set correctly

  1. Click Start, type Sound in the Start Search box.
  2. Click Sound in the search results at the top of the Start menu.
  3. Click the Playback tab. Notice the check mark next to the default device. For most users, the default device is Speakers.

Make sure that your audio settings are configured as expected. Follow these steps:

  1. On the Playback tab, select the playback device, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and make sure that the Default Format is set to the value that you expect.

When you finish, close this window to return to the previous window.

  1. On the Playback tab, select the playback device, click Configure, and then make sure the configurations are set correctly.
  2. If the sound settings are set correctly, you are using speakers as the sound device, and your speakers are already set as the default device, go to method 5 now.
  3. Select the sound device that you want as the default sound device, and then click Set Default.
  4. Click OK to save your settings and to close the Sound dialog box.

Determine whether you can now hear sound. If you can hear sound, the issue is resolved. If you cannot hear sound, try method 5.

you can also check performing clean boot.

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

  1. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
  2. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
  3. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
  4. Click OK.

When you are prompted, click Restart.

After the computer starts, start the  program and check whether the problem is resolved.

Hi, firstly I have no I-tunes.

audiodg.exe is told to be the source of this error.

somehow any software changes sound priority.

From task manager terminating audiodg.exesolves the issue for only once.

Under this topic I write most of the methods which are proposed in forums but gives failure.

Moreover I uninstalled some softwares (Skype, Game Ranger, Origin, Flash Player ) which I guess changing the sound priority but it still failed anyway.

    Microsoft always sucks!

I've seemed to fix the problem by installing Driver toolkit and it told me that one of my drivers weren't installed (it was absent from my computer and needs to be installed) which is weird because my sound worked normally with the drivers I had before installing this new driver(which supposedly missing). This fixed my problem. I suggest you guys try to disable then re-enable your driver through device manager to check if it's related with your drivers. For me it fixed it for a couple of minutes and my sound turned off again after I disabled and re-enable my driver.

    Conclusion:

One of my drivers wasn't installed so I installed a driver program, scanned and then installed the missing driver required for my sound. Any questions, let me know!

Update: Now my audio starts working most of the time however stops working for a couple of seconds from time to time.

I have this problem for nearly 1 and a half year (yeah my patience is great). I recently message Toshiba (I have a toshiba laptop windows 7) and this is what they sent me. (i have not done it yet because i need to back up everything first).

As this issue may be caused by a software misconfiguration, we would recommend that you reset Windows 7 on your laptop. You can do that by following the steps below.

Please be aware that the recovery process will delete any data, settings, and applications on your laptop. You must have a backup of any data you wish to keep before proceeding. To recover your laptop to the factory defaults, please follow these steps:

    1. Turn the laptop off and ensure the mains adapter is connected. 2. Turn the laptop on while holding down the F12 key. 3. When the boot menu appears, use the arrow keys to select 'HDD recovery' and then press enter. 4. When asked if you wish to access the recovery, select 'Yes' and press enter. 5. When the tool has launched, press next several times until 'Initialising the partition...' is displayed (please note that you will not need to change any settings as the correct ones are selected by default).

The first stage of the recovery process will take around 15 minutes to complete. When it has finished, you will need to click 'Restart now'. The second stage will take around 45 to 60 minutes to complete. When this is complete, the machine will restart and take you through the first time setup routine. After this the computer will install the device drivers; this may take a while and the computer may restart 15 times or more. This is perfectly normal.

If anyone here wants to try this let me know if it worked...

I started this thread a couple of years ago and can't believe the nonsense I got in response.

I just updated to Win 10 and haven't seen the problem in about a week. I'll let you know if this is the ultimate solution.
