How do I copy home movies on a DVD to my computer?

Home made (non-copy protected) DVDs are easy...

just insert the DVD in your DVD drive...go to...Start /

Computer...right click the icon for the DVD Drive and

choose Explore...you should see the directory of the DVD.

Now...copy/paste or drag/drop...the 'VIDEO_TS' folder

from the DVD to a new folder (renamed to the name of

the corresponding DVD) on your hard drive and that's it.

If you had VLC Media Player on your system (for example)

you could right click the VIDEO_TS folder and choose...

"Play With VLC Media Player" and the video will play.

These files can be several Gigabytes so copying can take

some time...have patience.

    This looks very helpful. However, does it apply to thew new Windows 10-64 that I have on my new computer? I surly hope so because I need to copy DVD of home movies also so I can burn additional copies.

    FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!!

    Download the "Freemake Video Converter" 

    It seems to work for most DVD's.  Now I can finally put the on my kids tablet for our trips and back up :)

    Actually it is perfectly legal as long as it is for personal use and not for reproduction and distribution.

    I've met enough people that back up their entire DVD collection to a network drive and stream their movies to their TV or PC.

    So it can be done, just need to find out how.

    You can't do that... illegal, copyright laws and such.  Read that disclaimer at the top of your purchases DVD.
