Hi spyder420,

·        What is the Operating System installed on your computer?

Along with TaurArian`s suggestions, also see if the following steps help.

Step 1:

a.       Run Windows Update troubleshooter and check if it helps. (For Windows 7)

Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

b.      Try to reset the Windows Update Components and see if it helps. Refer the below mentioned article for the same. (For Windows Vista and XP)

How do I reset Windows Update components?

**Step 2:**If this does not help, try installing the updates in a clean boot state and see if it helps. To do so, follow these steps.

a.       Click Start, type “msconfig.exe” (without quotes) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

b.      On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)

c.       On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all. Click OK, and then click Restart. Install the updates after the restart.

**Note:**Make sure you put the computer back to Normal Startup once updates finish installing.

I tried a lot of "solutions" only this works.

It worked on:

Windows 7 Enterprise 64bits.

My problem was that I update windows on May 12, 2015. And it give me back an error and did not install 6 updates. There was like 35 updates. With the others I got no problem. But since that I couldn't update anymore, until now. Thank you.

    Summary

Windows Update is the update mechanism for Windows, device drivers, and other Microsoft software installed on your PC. It is a very delicate system, and therefore is prone to many problems.

Sometimes, Windows Update will check for updates endlessly for hours without a response. This article describes an aggressive fix for this issue, so please only use this article as a last resort, only after you have tried everything.

Before getting started, please download and save the four files below. These files will be used throughout the fix, so they need to be saved in a convenient location.

Note: The second, third, and fourth files have versions for either 32 or 64-bit operating systems. If you're unsure which version to download, see How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system.

    1. Download MicrosoftFixit50202

    2. Download WindowsUpdateAgent (32-bit)  --OR-- Download WindowsUpdateAgent (64-bit)

    3. Download System Update Readiness Tool (32-bit)  --OR--  Download System Update Readiness Tool (64-bit)

    4. Download KB3102810 (32-bit)  --OR-- Download KB3102810 (64-bit)

    Details

    1. Open an elevated command prompt (Click Start > Type cmd > Right-click and select Run as Administrator)

    1. In the command prompt window, type the following commands and hit Enter after each:

    net stop bits

    net stop wuauserv

    1. Close the command prompt window, and navigate to the directory "C:\Windows" (where C:\ is the drive Windows is installed on)
    2. Find the SoftwareDistribution folder, and delete it. If there are some files that won't delete, that's okay.
    3. Next, open the first downloaded file (MicrosoftFixit50202) and follow the instructions. Make sure to run Aggressive Options of the Fix it. When it processes, you will be asked to restart.

    1. After the restart, open the second file downloaded (WindowsUpdateAgent) and follow the instructions. Restart when the installation finishes.

    7. Next, open the third file downloaded (System Update Readiness Tool) and follow the instructions. Be patient, this file can take a while to process. Restart when the installation finishes.

    1. After the restart, open the fourth file downloaded (KB3102810) and follow the instructions. Restart when the installation finishes.

    9. Now we need to make sure the services used by Windows Update are started and are assigned the correct startup type. To do so, you need to open the Services console (Click Start > Type services.msc).

    1. Windows Update uses three services to function:

    a) Background Intelligent Transfer Service

    b) Cryptographic Service

    c) Windows Update Service

Each of these services must be running and set to start Automatically. If not, double-click the service, and set the options manually. See the diagram below:

In this example, the service selected is Started, and its Startup Type is Manual.

    1. After making any necessary changes in the Services console, you can check for updates from Windows Update. You should now be able to receive, download, and install updates.

**Note:**You may still need to let Windows Update run for a while before it finds anything because the new agent will be registering itself for the first time.

I tried this to the "T", but still cannot download updates. Now it says "most recent check for updates - never", and "updates were installed - never". Checking installed updates shows all that have been installed.

All I get is the green sliding bar for hours. Do I have to leave it at this overnight? 8 hours?
