WINDOWS 7 error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

I am getting the error "

"WINDOWS 7 error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." for every application that i try to launch.

Please help with a fix.

Error message: "Side-by-side configuration is incorrect"

The machine is missing the correct C++ runtime components for your type of system. (x86 or x64).

Installing the following update resolved the issue.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package for (x64)

    I still face this issue when I install Live Messenger.

    Live Messenger does not start up and when i click the icon - the message appears

    " C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe

    The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. "

    It worked previously.

    I tried installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)  it sitll does not work.

    The event log states this:

    Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . A component version required by the application conflicts with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.4148_none_5090ab56bcba71c2.manifest. Component 2: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.1_none_e163563597edeada.manifest.

    Any recommendations how I can resolve this?

    hi am getting an error saying " the application has failed to start because side-by-side configuration is incorrect. please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe for more detail" ..

    I have checked the eventlog , there are more than 1000 events warnings. i dont understand what to do now. iam not able to open any downloaded files. I have seen some replies who posted for this kind of problems, saying install visual C++. and can you tell me why and how this is gonna work.

    I Downloaded "msert.exe" to check virus in my software, After downloading when I executed this file I got the message " The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration...... use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for mote detail 

    When I entered "sxstrace.exe" in command line - a box with some message  has appeared and immideately disappered 

    I tried windows essential but it is unable to notice any virus

    Now the problem is how to execute "msert.exe" to check virus
