WINDOWS 7 error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

I am getting the error "

"WINDOWS 7 error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." for every application that i try to launch.

Please help with a fix.

Error message: "Side-by-side configuration is incorrect"

The machine is missing the correct C++ runtime components for your type of system. (x86 or x64).

Installing the following update resolved the issue.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

    I have seven different Visual C++ downloaded these I downloaded throughout the month of Sept. trying different ways I guess its the combination of the x86 and x64 and the 2010, 2008, and 2005 versions, Ithat worked for me

    No use.  Tried it every way imaginable.  Tried installing with previous versions...tried uninstalling them and then putting on the new ones.  No use.  What's more...one day it just started working again randomly when I did nothing.  A number of days later it went down again.  The only thing I know is that this fix you listed doesn't work for me.  From my own experience and that of some of the others I've read, this is a fix for some and not for others.  Because it seems to have a decently high success rate, it was disheartening to see that I was one of those it would not work for.  But that's my life.
