WINDOWS 7 error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

I am getting the error "

"WINDOWS 7 error The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." for every application that i try to launch.

Please help with a fix.

Error message: "Side-by-side configuration is incorrect"

The machine is missing the correct C++ runtime components for your type of system. (x86 or x64).

Installing the following update resolved the issue.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

    I would like to try this but I cannot run any exe files, even ran the exe fix for windows 7 with no luck. 

    I have this suggested on other sites as well but cant run any exe files

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    ^Having this problem. I can't run .exe files. The error says it's not a valid Window's extension. :( I also can't uninstall the C++ that's installed. The Uninstall function doesn't load either. ><

    You can fix this by uninstalling the current version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and downloading and installing the 2008 version that comes from the Focus support website:

    http://support.focus-home.fr/vcredist_x86.exe

    Thanks, this is the solution of the problem, i uninstall old version of Visual C++, i install the version from the link, and now, yahoo messenger working again! Congratulation.

    I have this same issue with my yahoo messenger however I installed all of this and still didn't work then i installed the same for the 2005 edition and still didn't work. I used to have it where I uninstalled the 2008 version and it worked fine but after i installed all the x64 verions my messenger doesn't work period. still get the side by side configuration is incorrect
