hi please can someone help as i can't figure out how to switch on the inbuilt webcam on my sony viao i'm on windows 7 !!!!!

Hi Sarah,

Steps to turn on integrated WebCam on Sony Vaio Laptop

a.    Click on Start and then click on All programs.

b.    Go all the way to the bottom until you see “Arcsoft Webcam companion”

c.    Click on it and then click on Webcam companion 3 to turn your webcam.

That’s it.

    Im afraid it's not that easy. Especially not when you are a guy like me who have upgraded to Windows 8 on a windows 7 vaio (VPCEB2S1E) machine. I have problems to run the camera function - it just stands: there's a problem with the camera. I've checked the integrated camera driver, and it stands that it work perfectly fine. However, I suspect that the problem might be that I have no longer the "Arcsoft Webcam companion".

    So, my question is: Where and how do I get the "Arcsoft Webcam companion"? But first of all, do you think it would be the answer to my problem? Or what should I do to get the camera up running again?

    hi,

    i tried this steps but didnt work because i didnt see the arcsoft option at the bottom of my start up button. kind advise as i cant use my in built camera on windows 7.

    Well, my model is SVE15114FXS running windows 7 home premium. I can only use the webcam for the first time I use video call of Skype or Yahoo messenger. Arcsoft shows up at that time. Then, I stop the video call and then do video call again. The webcam is hung. Exactly, the light next to the webcam still on, but it said there is no webcam plugged in.

    If I want to make webcam work again, I have to shutdown (not restart) and turn on my laptop  again.

    One time I did something with my software and the webcam did not come back by above trick. I need to open Vaio Care > Advanced Tools > Restore and Recovery > Reinstall applications and drivers. I ticked all the drivers and Webcam companion, Magic visual effects and reinstalled them.

    Waited a bit, restarted my laptop and the webcam re-appears.

    So far, my solution to work well with webcam in skype or yahoo is using virtual machine. I installed VMware player, and made an virtual version of XPSP3. Inside the virtual machine, Skype works just fine with the webcam.

    If you got problem to connect your webcam into virtual machine in VMware, restart your computer, plug in an usb drive, connect this drive to virtual machine first and then the webcam. I don't know why but that's the only way I discovered to connect my webcam.

    Remember to unplug your webcam and usb drive out of your virtual machine when you've done your job. If you always plug in the usb drive in your real machine, you don't have to do this step.

    I was calling Sony support and they provided me with a procedure using "Assist" button, it reseting factory settings which means i will loose all  my data unless i save it. After few weeks my cam is not working anymore so im gonna follow support advice-if issue persist, i have to give my laptop to them service...;(
