How to update Windows Media Player codecs

Intel/Ligos Indeo Interactive 5.0 (IV50)

Where can I find these CODECS updates for Windows Media Player Version 11 for Windows Vista?  Without them, some of my older .avi files will not function or run properly.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike4UT,

I hope you are doing well. First I would recommend you to check for the latest updates using automatic updates. If there are new codec’s or required codec’s it will be downloaded and installed by the automatic update feature of windows vista.

To access windows updates click on start, click on control panel and then click on windows updates. You will see all the important and required updates.

I will also include the link for our codec package which you can directly download and install.

Use the above link for downloading codec packages for all the versions of windows media player.

I just had this problem I'm on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, after a few minutes of websurfing I saw this. Then I found another page http://www.cucusoft.com/codec.asp the last download on the very bottom is the IV50 codec installer I ran it and my video loads perfectly now, try it for your self.

VLC needs no Codec usually so use it as a backup, when it asks to take over file associations just say no.

Read this 1st and either go that route or use the one below. (Vista or Windows 7)

Or try these :  Download - SAVE - go to where your put them RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN.

You need to know which you are using 32 or 64 WMP

    Hi,

    Please try updating the computer to the letest updates from windows updates. If there are any new updates download and install them. Please check other third party websites for any codec packages, download and install the codec packages.

    In all honesty, we may be stuck with Microsoft Windows 7 on this one...

    I have carefully research the Internet since I am running into the same issues as all of you. Apparently Microsoft underestimated its own skill set and further the wide spread use of Intel Indeo Video 5.0 Wavelet codec.

    My situation:

    I am using about 15 of the TrendNET IP cameras myself and have customers who use that too.

    The TrendNET internet camera (e.g. TV-IP400) records motion detection videos in .AVI format. When trying to open the .AVI files on Windows 7, I get an error message from Windows Media Player 12. Now, I tried using AVS Video Converter 6.3 to convert that .AVI file into a different format. However, it reports the following:

    ACM video codec is not installed.

    Codec name: Intel Indeo Video 5.0 Wavelet

    Next steps: Hours of research on the Internet and a bunch of tests.

    First stop: Ligos Corporation. http://www.ligos.com/index.php/home/products/indeo/

    Ligos Corporation bought the Intel Video Codecs from Intel and kept them up to date until Windows XP. With Windows Vista and Windows 7, however, Microsoft (yet again) made its own bold decision to develop Indeo codecs. Unfortunately they are not a complete set. With MS installing their own codec files that are not functioning with older AVI files using original Intel Indeo Video 5.0 codec versions, Ligos Corporation now cannot even develop their own supporting codecs because it simply cannot overwrite existing Windows 7 OS files. That's the short version of the story.

    So, final question since I am sick and tired of the default Microsoft support replies of "make sure you have the latest updates, contact your manufacturer, blah, blah, ..."

    When will Microsoft be providing a complete and functioning set of Intel Indeo Video 5.0 codec sets?

    Why does Microsoft always decide to do something half-way instead of providing complete and functioning software packages?

    Bottom line: If you need Intel/Ligos Indeo Interactive 5.0 (IV50) codecs, uninstall Windows 7, ask for a full refund, and install Windows XP Professional until such time that Microsoft can get Windows 7 right.
