No sound via HDMI output when connecting laptop to TV

Original title: HDMI Laptop to TV - No Sound

Up until a few weeks ago it worked well:  I simply connected the HDMI cable between my laptop and TV and got both the audio and video on the TV (After selecting the right AV channel on the TV).  Now I only get the video.

I have looked through other questions on this forum but have not found anything that works.  I am reluctant to change too much, as it worked before.

In my "Playback Devices" I see two devices: "Speakers" (Default) and "SPDIF Interface".   

Laptop: Packard Bell Easy Note TJ65 Pentium Dual-Core CPU

Windows 7 Version 6.1 (Build 7600)

TV: Panasonic Plasma TX-PS42S10B (HD Ready)

Any ideas, anybody?  I feel that as I have made very few changes, the fix must be simple.  I haven't tried a different cable yet, but I'm pretty sure it's OK.

BINGO!!

(So I had to go on to JustAnswers.com & pay £28, but I got the answer straight away ... wish I had gone earlier!)

Happy to share, though, for anyone struggling with this annoying problem...

I went on to Device Manager (Start Button > right click on Computer and selectManage) and uninstalled the device calledIntel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI.  Restarted the computer.  Connected TV with HDMI cable.  Right clicked on the little speaker symbol & slected Playback Devices.  Panasonic TV shows as a device.  Right clicked on it & set as default.  I got my sound back & everything works fine. 

It seems the driver had been updated somewhere along the line and was no longer compatible.  Following this process makes the computer put back its own driver.  All this time I was looking for a newer driver, and what it wanted was the old one!

For the record, the device in Device Manager is now called High Definition Audio Device. No mention of HDMI!

By the way, if you right click on the desktop you get a wizard to set up the TV interface.

    Tried Step 1, but the HDMI option did not appear.

    Tried the system restore before the issue, still no resolution.

    The system worked fine some 4 hours earlier.  Checked the HDMI cable connection, I get image on my TV screen, but no sound.  Please help.

    Went through all 5 pages of this thread, tried all ideas, but nothing seems to work for me. 

    When I go through Sound/Playbeck settings it's all there as it should be: Digital Audio (HDMI) is displayed and set as a default device. While playing a video, green bars keep jumping indicating there is a sound...somewhere, but not on my TV. Just a video.

    In Device Manager there is no black arrow. Everything is in order.

    But still no sound on TV. Just video.

    Tried reinstalling High Definition Audio Controller. Not helping.

    The laptop manual (Acer TravelMate 5730, and the TV is LG 37LH2000) has a single sentece on this: it supports HDMI !!!. My other two laptops (both Dell) are connecting perfectly to the same TV with the same cable though. At least I know it's something with Acer.

    I simply can't seem to get around this one.

    You are a genius! Your solution worked for me! I deleted the Intel Driver and restarted my computer. I love you! (not gay love, just love ... haha)

    thank you so much for this information - I too had the same thing happen - everything was working just fine up till about a month ago - I have tried everything, gone to all sorts of sites getting information and none of it was working for me - I had given up for a while but could not stand it anymore using an external set of speakers to hear a movie that we could see on the TV but not hear - I finally come across this post and thought this could actually be my problem and sure enough it was - it took me a few tries of getting it to work but it did)
