No sound via HDMI output when connecting laptop to TV

Original title: HDMI Laptop to TV - No Sound

Up until a few weeks ago it worked well:  I simply connected the HDMI cable between my laptop and TV and got both the audio and video on the TV (After selecting the right AV channel on the TV).  Now I only get the video.

I have looked through other questions on this forum but have not found anything that works.  I am reluctant to change too much, as it worked before.

In my "Playback Devices" I see two devices: "Speakers" (Default) and "SPDIF Interface".   

Laptop: Packard Bell Easy Note TJ65 Pentium Dual-Core CPU

Windows 7 Version 6.1 (Build 7600)

TV: Panasonic Plasma TX-PS42S10B (HD Ready)

Any ideas, anybody?  I feel that as I have made very few changes, the fix must be simple.  I haven't tried a different cable yet, but I'm pretty sure it's OK.

BINGO!!

(So I had to go on to JustAnswers.com & pay £28, but I got the answer straight away ... wish I had gone earlier!)

Happy to share, though, for anyone struggling with this annoying problem...

I went on to Device Manager (Start Button > right click on Computer and selectManage) and uninstalled the device calledIntel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI.  Restarted the computer.  Connected TV with HDMI cable.  Right clicked on the little speaker symbol & slected Playback Devices.  Panasonic TV shows as a device.  Right clicked on it & set as default.  I got my sound back & everything works fine. 

It seems the driver had been updated somewhere along the line and was no longer compatible.  Following this process makes the computer put back its own driver.  All this time I was looking for a newer driver, and what it wanted was the old one!

For the record, the device in Device Manager is now called High Definition Audio Device. No mention of HDMI!

By the way, if you right click on the desktop you get a wizard to set up the TV interface.

    I have just found a slightly simpler solution to this problem.  I should point out that I am not a computer expert, so I was afraid to uninstall anything in case I buggered it up.

    (If you need to know, I am using a Novatech Notebook with Windows 7 64 bit operating system, and I have an LG television).

    I'll explain what I did to fix this problem in layman's terms for the non-geeks like me out there:

    1.  Make sure your laptop is connected to your tv securely with an HDMI cable - sometimes they come loose in the sockets.  And obviously start up your laptop and switch your tv on.

    2.  Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom right of your screen.

    3.  Left click on 'Playback Devices.'

    4.  You should now see a box labelled 'Sound' showing two options:  your computer's speakers (which on mine is labelled 'Speakers, Realtek High Definition Audio'), and your TV.

    If you don't see both options - right click on the one that you can see, then make sure that both the 'Show Disabled Devices' and 'Show Disconnected Devices' options are ticked.  If they aren't then left click on those options to tick them.

    5.  Now right click on your TV's option in the 'Sound' box and left click on 'Set as default device'.  The TV option should now have a green tick next to it. (If your TV is already set as the default option you can ignore this step).

    6.  Finally,  right click on your computer's speakers option in the 'Sound' box and left click on 'Disable', then left click on 'OK' at the bottom of the box.

    You should now have the sound coming out of your tv.

    P.S. Don't forget you will need to re-enable your computer's speakers when you want to use them by going through step 6 above and clicking on 'Enable'.

    I hope this works for you too but, of course, I cannot guarantee it.

    Same thing here. Actually, everything was working fine while W7 were on my Acer TravelMate 5730 - All U have to do is click HDMI cable on both ends. Go to Playback tab of Sound window in CP. Make it default, to hear the sound on your LG TV. I even found some little sw that does it all automatically for you.

    But everything went wrong after installing W10. Now, I'm watching things in Kodi through Acer's little speakers. And the situation in Sound part of Control Panel is like this:

    NVIDIA HDMI Outpu

    NVIDIA High Definition Audio

    Not plugged in    (which is not true - HDMI proprerly plugged in on both sides - monitor picture on LG TV proves it...it's just that there's no sound).  It used to be like with you gvolos - green bars used to jump indicating there must be sound somewhere there. Though not.

    Now...even that has disapeared (great loss though!).

    Well...this "Not pluged in" expression is the most interesting one..

    Thought it might has to do something with NVIDIA....picked around the NVIDIA installed centre. But nothing to configure due sound.

    There's just on thing left to try - the Gebril thing. So....let's do it before I completelly fell asleep (far too late to waste time on thins now). My last try.
