I just upgraded to Windows 11. I guess that also gave me a new version of Edge. And like most new releases in M$FT, it doesn't work like it used to in even the simplest ways. On my Windows 10 laptop, if I Ctrl-Click on a link in Edge, it opens up a new tab in the same Window. On my Windows 11 laptop, that same action opens up what appears to be a new page, but is really a new tab on a separate page, or something like that. If I close that page, the first page is also closed.
Anyway, what do I need to do to make it work like it used to? Or should I just give up completely and just use Firefox and Chrome?
I checked several websites that suggested solutions, but I could not find the controls they said to use.

Thank you Kathy, I found a permanent fix. I stopped using it and use Opera now. Haven’t had a single issue!
Here's a screenshot of the Search section. The bottom half of the image doesn't show. Nowhere in this section is there anything to do with opening a new tab or window.
I found the answer everyone!
When you open a new tab and search for something. On the Right, there will be the three horizontal bars icon, click that, then click settings, click more. Scroll down. There will be two checkboxes, you can deselect them. They mention opening a search link in a new tab, or a newsfeed item in a new tab. Deselect both/either, make sure to hit save and it resolves the issue!
The way to turn this off, when you do a search, you will see next to your account top right corner Menu triple Line you typically see for more options. Under that you will see Setting, go to More, you will see Search suggestions and under it Result, uncheck Open links from search results in a new tab or window. I made a short video if you want to follow that. Turn off New Tabs on search
***I had the same problem and searching and nothing worked till i seen a one launch app then uninstalled it and it quit happening... im on a different computer im at ***@hotmail.com hope that helped...
