WHY am I being FORCED to deal with Microsoft edge?

I have no other issues . My computer just works fine. It is Microsoft who is forcing me to use their Edge browser. How would Microsoft feel if another browser edges

out their EDGE browser. Are we living in a free society or are we living in Communist China. Just a simple question.

Microsoft is not forcing anything. You gave them permission to install Edge or any other updates when you agreed to the Terms and Conditions when you installed Windows 10.  Microsoft granted you the right to install and use Windows 10 but, they kept ownership of Windows 10 and the to determine what features would be installed, When, and by what method. 

Legally, yes, you are correct, but you are missing the rather obvious point.

Most people here aren't talking about the legality of this, but rather the ethics of this. I have yet to see if this is an ongoing problem, but I am a long-term windows user, yet I virtually never use edge or explorer, although I keep both installed as alternatives should my preferred browser (primarily chrome, alternatively firefox) fail to be able to do something.

Now I've set the scene, let me walk you through the what I would hope is painfully obvious here. I've used Windows 10 for 4, maybe 5 years? Pretty soon after it launched, before that I used Windows 7. Software has compatibility with windows, and while I could use Linux or Mac, my workflow is quicker with Windows given I've spent over a decade at least using it solidly.

I appreciate that Windows can do a lot thanks to sweeping T&C agreements, most companies have T&C agreements like that so they can never be legally caught out (easily at least), but we also assume as ordinary people (perhaps naively, though we don't have much of a choice in today's world) a company is going to behave in good faith, in this case comandeering my entire screen, not simply when I open edge, but rather when I've simply opened up windows, with effectively a spam advertisement, lacking the obvious way to close it (the little 'x' button in the top right corner of a window, a pretty iconic feature of windows!) is not exactly acting in good faith. Likewise, thankfully this time round my default browser preference is unchanged, but trying to seize control away from me while I use my computer, is really not what I expected from Microsoft 4 or 5 years ago, let along over a decade ago when my relationship with them began.

I'm not the type to complain frequently, but we as users very much have a right to complain, and in this case, I damn right will.

Unfortunately, loss of information is exactly what happened. I don't have a problem with edge, as long as I don't lose cookies, credentials and other important details.  I got rid of it the first time because not even my favorites with all of my research bookmarked was there. It reinstalled itself again, and this time it had my favorites and the favorites bar was even there. But still, other important things were missing. I cannot lose information. On one web site, whenever the cookies are deleted, I have to  be sent an OTP to get back in. Now imagine having to do this a hundred times. That's why I'm annoyed. I have to lose too much. For now, I know how to stop the update. 

I don't have time to play around with Microsoft. I would need to talk to a live person, I don't feel comfortable explaining this online for any hacker to see.

because of this it will not allow me to open up programs I need for work!

I do not understand why if something is working why I was forced to take something I did not want, Plus I can not get any help from Microsoft thanks

Does the Microsoft troll who replied to this email realize how ignorant the reply sounds?  No one that I know that bought a computer with an OS installed expected that they would be repeatedly forced to use a browser they do not want.  A browser is independent of an OS and integrating them does not change the fact that they are separate issues and there are other browsers.  I want to use Firefox or Brave.  I don't want to give MS my information.  I should be able to uninstall or disable it ONCE and not have it ever reappear.  Saying that it is ok because I agreed to it in the license agreement does  not play because I HAVE NO CHOICE TO AGREE TO A LICENSE AGREEMENT IN ORDER TO USE MY COMPUTERS.  It is not a choice.  It is time for a massive class action lawsuit against MS to stop this behavior.

This is insane. I woke up, turned my pc on and see that while my computer updated Microsoft sneakily installed a new version of edge. The icing on the cake, however, is that my system's screen was commandeered by an unclosable presentation forcing me to watch a slow and meticulous explanation of all of the changes you've made to my system that I never asked for and want nothing to do with.

This behavior is doing the opposite of what your company wants to happen. These forceful tactics do not make anyone want to use your service and immediately make you a nuisance and enemy to the user. It's as if you as a company feel your users are going to be too stupid to notice this change or too lazy to go back to using their original browser and just passively accept the changes you've made. We're not cattle. We make our own decisions. 

So here I am, taking up my time and energy trying to change things BACK to the way I had them, on the computer I pay a lot of money to own and maintain.
