How do I set Edge to open links in a new tab automatically?

In IE, it was possible under Settings>General>Tabs: When a pop-up is encountered: (select) Always open pop-ups in a new tab.
The above applied to links or whatever to open in new tab beside the existing tab (as opposed to a new seperate window).

Why can I not find anywhere where this setting is in Edge that I can set it to open links and pop-ups in a new tab?

Or perhaps I'm looking for something that no longer exists.

(based on other responses, this is nothing to do with Bing or using Bing)

Try below.

  1. Open Edge – 3 dots located top right corner – Settings – Default browser – Internet Options – General Tab – Tabs
  2. Under Open links from other programs in: Make sure a check mark is on “A new tab in the current window”
  3. Click “Ok” to save.

    Hello,

    I tried to convince myself that Edge might be good, but, boy was I wrong. I have spent so many hours searching, reading, and trying all tricks that are supposed to work with a simple task like opening a link or a favorite link in a new tab. The so-called "Microsoft Advisors and Experts" are helpless and they only give suggestions that usually hit-and-miss in best case scenario. After this posting, and because I am fed up with Microsoft Marketers and Developers, who do not bother to reply, I will switch back to my easy and intuitive browser, which is Firefox with a strong prejudice against Microsoft Edge and everything related to it. If the "advisors" and "experts" cannot help the average users with Edge and its endless bugs and problems, nobody can. So, even though I do not usually give advice, I would gladly recommend Firefox as a first choice and Chrome as a second choice. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

    There is a workaround to this issue. Right click on the link. Then in the menu that comes up click Open in new tab. That's how I open links in a new tab on Edge.

    NO ONE wants some random link they neeed to check quickly to open in the same tab they are working in. NOBODY!! Who makes your design decisions ? Obviously not customer behavior, nor user experience data-driven design. Perhaps design driven by aliens who don't know how humans use the internet? Every other browser brand has this setting -- what makes you think we won't want it here? We want links to open in a separate tab PERIOD. There is almost no human on earth who does NOT want that. Time to catch up with reality.

    Try this. In Edge on the Extensions page, click "allow extensions from other stores." Then download Tab Activate a Chrome extension, install it in Edge. Then a click on a link opens a new tab and changes focus to the new tab. Works for me in latest version of Edge and Win 11.
