My Microsoft Edge browser keeps freezing up. I have tried all the suggested solutions with no success. I like the design and functionality offered by Edge, but will change to Firefox until I get a notice that Microsoft has fixed the problem with Edge freeze ups.

I started experiencing this problem about two weeks ago with Windows 11 and Edge version 98.0.1108.43 (Official build) (64-bit). This is on a brand-new laptop with 11th Gen Core-i7 processor and 16GB RAM. The computer came with Windows 10 and first thing I did was upgrade to Windows 11. I previously had an older 8th Gen Core i7 with 16GB RAM also. That laptop was also upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 but it was still running an older version of Edge (version 97, I think) and didn't have this problem. I have the problem only when watching online videos - usually multiple videos in multiple browser tabs.

Anyway, I found a way to un-freeze Edge without losing my browsing sessions. Run Task Manager. On the Processes tab, expand 'Microsoft Edge' to show its sub processes. Right-click on 'GPU Process' and select 'End Task'. When 'GPU process' is restarted, all tabs are un-frozen. Any running videos continue. Nothing appears to be lost.

When my tabs are frozen, I have noticed 'GPU Process' consuming anywhere from 500MB to 900MB. After the restart, it drops to around 30MB and starts climbing again - I guess because the videos continue running. When I am not watching videos, 'GPU Process' is about 23MB

I'm having the same problem after Edge updated yesterday (02/05/22). It is freezing up randomly, sometimes when i click on the taskbar button to open, it will cause my usb keyboard and mouse to stop working, sometimes it freezes after it opens, and sometimes after it opens and i try to go to a website. I switched over to Firefox and am not having any issues. I believe the problem is within the Edge software, as i have no issues when using Firefox and doing anything else on my PC. The freezing up only happens with Edge. Btw, Win 10 (21H2).
