Edge keeps freezing up.

I have had the same issue for the past couple of weeks.  

Both of my browsers (Chrome and Edge) were constantly freezing up at random times.  After 5-10 minutes, they would unlock, but this was highly annoying.  I tried everything suggested.  Disabled Add-ons, Cleared Cache, even went so far as to uninstall Chrome and reinstall from scratch.  NOTHING WORKED!!

I finally saw the suggestion above to try turning off hardware acceleration in the browser settings.  After doing so, I have not had any additional freeze-ups with either browser.  (At least not for the past 8 hours.  Previously, they would freeze within a few minutes.)

Granted, my CPU is very old in CPU years (about 10), so maybe the new version of windows/browsers in not compatible with my older hardware acceleration capabilities.

Anyway, at least my browsers are usable again.  And I might be able to squeeze out a few more years before I break down and buy a new computer.

Thanks for the update, David! Could you check edge://settings/system and see if you have 'Use hardware acceleration when available' toggled on? If so, please try switching it off and confirm if the freezing behavior changes.

Also freezing up when loading ‘java’ script.

It is pretty funny to me, how many here are unwilling to just do what the suggestions ask.
Dump the cache and such like they ask.

Another way to tell if it is the program, vs. some **** that has got in there, is to create and or use another profile on your computer.
If it works with the other profile, then it is not the browser, it is things in the settings, cache, etc., that are mucked up.

Done it all...followed all suggestions, and done it multiple times on my desktop...still freezes. But, you are correct Jeff, in that I don't have any problem using Edge on my laptop, or my wife's desktop, so must be some deeply ingrained conflict in my desktop's subsystems. Just don't understand why Google Chrome and Firefox work so well. Guess if I want to use Edge I'll just have to buy a new computer.

Do you have any extensions installed? If so, I would like for you to disable them temporarily and see if it helps.  

We also released a new update a few days ago.  You check if you have the latest update by clicking on the three dots menu and go to Help and feedback.  Click on About Microsoft Edge to manually check for updates.
