Edge and Chrome freezes while browsing making Windows not responsive for 1 minute follow by Windows explorer behave strangely

Try doing the fix that was earlier in the comments. Go into your settings for Edge or any chrome based browser, turn off hardware acceleration. It seems to be a fix that helps a lot of people.

I turned off hardware acceleration on Edge and Chrome and have not had a freeze since.  As has been mentioned, it could be the code that is disabled when hardware acceleration is enabled which probably allows direct access to the video card driver / hardware combination.  Sounds like a great place for some investigation and a fix.  

For now I am satisfied my computer is no longer freezing but the root cause should be identified and fixed.

I, too, have been having the same problem with Edge for the past week.  It freezes for about a minute and then reloads.  Very annoying.  I am currently using Opera without an issue.

I have:

• Run antivirus/anti-malware
• Cleared Cache
• Created a new profile
• Run sfc /scannow
• Run DISM.exe with all the different options
• Reinstalled Windows from ISO

As others are having the same issue, it is clearly a recent update causing the problem and needs to be addressed.

Thanks for the swift response. Can we try creating a new user profile and check if the same issue appears on the new user profile?

To create new user profile, please follow the steps below

1. Open the command prompt with elevated access (Administrator Access)
2. Type the below command and hit enter every after command.

net user "account name" /add

(change the "account name" to any name that you preferred)

net localgroup administrators "account name" /add

(change the "account name" with the name that you put in the first command)

3. Close the command prompt and switch to the new user.

Check if the same issue occurs on the new user profile.

If the windows have some missing or corrupted files which actually makes the browser freezing, you can try and perform in-place repair which is repair any windows broken or corrupted files. In-place repair/upgrade or repair reinstall is a process of re-installing Windows without touching any of your applications or personal files. In this way if there's any data corruption, damaged system files or missing system files on your computer, this repair will fix or repair them.

To start we need to download an ISO file of Windows 10 and save it to your computer. Please follow the instruction on the link below to create an ISO file

This process will take some time to complete so you need to be very patient in waiting until the process completes. Once done , restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
