Edge is opening EVERY TIME I REBOOT!

Insidiously it is absent from all STARTUP control systems so we CAN'T STOP it.

Does congressional investigations of unfair trade practices do nothing?

How can microsoft be so trumpianly abusive?

Hello, 

Edge version 97.0.1072.62 contains the fix and will be installed per your regular update policies over the next day or so. If you'd like to force the update immediately, you can head over to edge://settings/help in the address bar or Settings > About Microsoft Edge and trigger the update manually.

If you've made any registry edits or GPO changes as mitigation, you can revert those after the update!

    I have noticed my desktop has started to do this recently. Like many others here, I tried the solutions posted in the first replies to no avail.

    Then, I noticed that when I go into the Settings app, it now features a banner at the top. Bear in mind that my version of Windows is in French, so I don't know what the wording is exactly, but at the banner basically invites you to complete your settings to get the best Windows experience, with a 'start now' of 'answer questions now' button.

    It'll then take over the whole screen, pretty much like the first time you start Windows, and will ask you:

    • 'Do you want to use Microsoft's recommended settings for Web browsing', aka 'use Edge as a default for everything, even managing your connected toaster or whatever', to which you're likely to want to reply 'Leave my settings as they are', aka 'F…Bloody leave me alone, you peace of s…oftware!'
    • 'Do you want to use OneDrive - we have cookies it's 50% off just for you because we'd really like it if all your data were belong to us', to which you reply whatever you want, OneDrive is actually not bad as a product nowadays, I just don't need/want it.

    After that, I logged off and back on, and no Edge in sight (apart from its icon in the Start Menu, where it belongs). So I guess it's kind of a bug that happens to some people who haven't answered the supplementary questions that came with a recent update.

    If that alone doesn't work on its own, bear in mind that just before answering the supplemental questions above, I have:

    • Made sure that Edge is not in the StartUp folder (spoiler alert: it's not there)
    • Deleted all the files in the Active folder
    • Went to Settings > Apps, clicked on Edge and selected 'Modify', and then selected 'Repair', which reinstalled Edge, on the odd chance that would do it

    Hopefully that'll do it for you all too.

    Thank you for your reply! I have just tried your method. I did not see Edge listed in the Startup (folder). I saw Edge listed only in Apps & features (folder). Thank you all the same!
