Edge is opening EVERY TIME I REBOOT!

Insidiously it is absent from all STARTUP control systems so we CAN'T STOP it.

Does congressional investigations of unfair trade practices do nothing?

How can microsoft be so trumpianly abusive?

Hello,

Edge version 97.0.1072.62 contains the fix and will be installed per your regular update policies over the next day or so. If you'd like to force the update immediately, you can head over to edge://settings/help in the address bar or Settings > About Microsoft Edge and trigger the update manually.

If you've made any registry edits or GPO changes as mitigation, you can revert those after the update!

yes, well this sort of **** is exactly what stopped me from "upgrading" to windows 10, too much way too hard to customise, too much bloatware that can not be uninstalled or controlled, all setting reset after updates (do they really wonder why so many users would refuse updates when it would cost a few hours resetting everything again???) the famous compulsory update that would after about 1 hour refuse to install, but was unskipable, cost me more than 1 week to try to convert then sadly after almost going out of business had to revert back to win7, now this ****. why why why not give an option of load all the **** at startup that many users really don't use EVERY TIME and why why does a new tab have sooooooo much garbage to load when the only reason I can think of for a new tab is to search for something??????

By all means when you have worked out people use computers for different reasons other than being flooded with advertising and **** clickbait headlines and really need the option of not having to put up with it all, and you can do updates without changing all my personalised settings and giving me options of what I want to startup then let me know!!!!!!!

does anyone have success with linux?

Kevin, you should only answer questions after you read them. You start with a focus on 3rd party apps. You make people jump through hoops for nothing. You read nothing of what the problem was and sent out a template response. I hope someone replaces you with a robot so I can be less offended with your inadequate help. Don't worry though. The other processes I've found online also do nothing to solve the problem so you aren't alone. The difference between your answer and others is that your "solution" doesn't tackle the actual problem while others out there are at least trying to be on topic and make sense. I hope this criticism is taken constructively so you can provide real solutions in future. It does get frustrating trying to find a solution for problems, sifting through the nonsense answers. I come across your "help" and I know people are being helped to waste their time. The old reformat + reinstall "fix" doesn't fix programs installed with the OS. Reinstalling an OS is good against viruses, corrupt system files, etc. Hope this helps you to be more thoughtful when offering help to others. Causing more work for no reason isn't help.

    Hi Jon -

I'm Kevin B. Independent advisor and a Windows user like you. I do apologize for the inconvenience that you experiencing right now, let me help you sort things out.

Please try to follow the steps below and check if it will resolve your issue with Microsoft Edge opening after reboot.

    Method 1: Perform Clean Boot

    • This process will eliminate 3rd party application running in the background of your computer along with services that are not needed to run windows. If there's any conflicting 3rd party application that causes the issue on your computer, this process will stop it.
    1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig
    2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.
    3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.
    4. Click on services tab
    5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services > This is a very important part as if you miss to click on this, computer might not boot properly or permanently and will end up on clean installation.
    6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All
    7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
    8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
    9. Click OK , Apply and close the configuration utility

Method 2: Remove Microsoft Edge from Startup Folder

    • Startup folder contains application and shortcuts which opens automatically when computer starts. Please check and make sure that folder does not have Microsoft Edge inside.
    1. Open the Run Box by pressing the windows key + r then type shell:Startup then press enter.
    2. Folder will open, please check and delete if there's any shortcut links or if Microsoft Edge is showing on the folder
    3. Close the Startup Folder and Restart your computer

Method 3: Delete the contents of Active Folder in C Drive

    • Deleting the contents of active folders in Microsoft Edge will stop Edge from opening during startup. To do that please Follow the steps below.
    1. Open the Run Box by pressing the windows key + r
    2. Navigate to the below path:

    C:\Users\UserName\Appdata\local\packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Recovery\Active

Note: Change the UserName that corresponds to the user name of your profile on the computer.

    1. Delete the contents of that folder.

Restart your computer and Microsoft Edge should not be opening anymore during startup.

Feel free to reach back to us if you need further assistance

Hope this will help and have a bless day!

    Thanks.

    Kevin B.
