I cannot understand why Microsoft have limited the number of Quick Links able to be displayed on the home page to eight. I have been using Firefox for several years and found that with up to 16 available, I can cover the the sites I uses regularly (although I don't use all 16).
To not even, say, allow an option to increase the number seems to be unnecessarily controlling/limiting.
I have submitted this as formal feedback, I hope more people do so.

Maybe a silly question this but why even bother offering a dev version to the public then, seems pretty much pointless

The size, shape, colour and number of Quick Links have changed many times in preview versions over the past few months, and it's likely that only a subset of insiders will see any particular variant. Here is my current NTP on 90.0.789.1:
And if organised they'd have already included options for more than 8 quick links and the Blink engine isn't new, Microsoft have just added their stuff to it.
No need to add an extension either, I'll use Opera as I suspect this simple feature they could no doubt do overnight by changing the 8 to a 16 will take them months
