How to prevent video autoplay in Chromium Edge

Hi

I've upgraded to chromium edge but now videos are autoplaying again. I had this disabled on classic Edge but can't work out how to do this on the new version.

I've set "Media autoplay" to "Limit" in the "Site Permissions" section of settings but this doesn't seem to have had any effect at all (yes, I've restarted Edge / Windows).

I had also had this problem with dev / beta builds of Edge but hadn't got around to chasing it up until it became my primary browser.

In particular it's annoying on the MSN new pages linked to from the new tab page in Edge when they all have autoplaying video.

Why isn't there an option called "Block"?

You'll probably find that the block option has to be enabled. Copy the next line into the address bar and press Enter:

edge://flags/#edge-autoplay-user-setting-block-option

Once this flag is enabled, you should see Block on the autoplay options menu.

I would suggest you refer to the below steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Copy edge://flags/ and paste it to the browser's address bar.
  3. Type 'Show block option in autoplay settings' and set it to 'Enable'.
  4. Copy edge://settings/profiles and paste it to the browser's address bar.
  5. Type 'Media autoplay' click it.
  6. Set it to 'Block'.
  7. Restart your computer, and when it boots up, check to see whether or not the problem has been resolved.

In the new Microsoft Edge, the option of automatic playback is limited.

However, you can install an extension like autoplayblocker from the Chrome web store to disable Autoplay. (You may have to enable extensions from other store).

    of course they know how to do it, the last version had it right, you could block site by site, they changed it because they get money from advertisers who want to force us to watch ad videos

    Yeah, this is a headache to fight with Edge to make it work properly, so many times I tried to use it, but always got some problems.... Used Chrome before, but it became bulky and slow. The best option I found currently, its amazingly clean and fast browser Brave, clean I mean there are no any annoying adverts, praying eyes, and it automatically blocks dangerous scripts, insecure websites, pop up windows and auto play elements so you can enjoy pure, unobstructed, free, like it meant to be, internet - check it out here if you will keen it
